The Home Guard (after re-formation)

Parent Command Com Guards

The cornerstone of ComStar's military, the Terran Defense Force was destroyed during the Word of Blake's Operation Odysseus.

History[edit]

Even with the public expansion of the Com Guards to defend ComStar's myriad of HPG compounds, the full extent of the Terran Defense Force remained hidden. Not even the fearsome Wolfnet could pierce ROM's protective cloak, its best estimates was that the Defenders of the Faithful was a Level V sized beta formation with the strength of tweleve Regiments, two or more being BattleMech Regiments.[1]

The bulk of Com Guard portion of the Defenders of the Faithful may have served as an uncommitted reserve force slated to face Clan Wolf during the Battle of Tukayyid, assigned by Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht to an ad hoc 13th Army, but Focht ended the campaign before they could be fully committed. Two divisions of Com Guards were left on Terra, as part of Primus Myndo Waterly's bodyguard.[2] These may have been part of the TDF.

With the terrible losses on Tukayyid, warriors of the TDF may have been reassigned to bolster other divisions, with rebuilding formations assigned to take up the slack as they rebuilt, downgrading it to a gamma based formation. The post-Tukayyid TDF was nicknamed the Home Guard.[3]

The mercenary unit Brion's Legion made up half of the Terran Defense Force. Their contract ran from the end of the Fourth Succession War to the beginning of Operation Guerrero. Their departure, and the subsequent hiring of the 21st Centauri Lancers, would eventually cause ComStar to lose Terra.[4]
