The Republic of the Sphere's Towne Militia, also known from February 3133 as the Towne Defense Force,[1] guarded Towne under Republic rule.

History
Prior to the Blackout, the Towne militia suffered from low recruitment numbers.[2]
On 5 February 3133, in response to attacks on other Republic worlds, Governor Renee Oscar and Legate Jonathan Jurik announced the formation of the Towne Defense Force, an expanded planetary militia, and placed Daman Zibler in command as General.[1] Militia enlistment rapidly rose, aided by major speeches and an offer of citizenship for service.[2] The expanded militia assisted local emergency services from time to time, helping police examine an Excalibur crash site in February[3] and providing aid amidst the Sydney province floods of April.[4]
By August, Towne's leaders had supplemented the Militia with the hiring of a small Twenty-first Centauri Lancers detachment, a BattleMech lance with vehicle and infantry support.[5]
From 27 August[6] to 2 September 3133,[7] the Towne Militia, along with mercenary and Republic support, fended off a Stormhammers attack on the planetary HPG. The defense was coordinated by Knight-Errant Kristoff Erbe.[7] In the aftermath of the attack, militia patrols and security measures increased around Towne's capital of Port Howard,[8] and additional mercenaries were hired to support the militia in February 3134.[9]
