Early life
Ryder was born into a Lyran MechWarrior family.
Career
Ryder would spend time with Monk's Marauders mercenary unit before joining the First Somerset Strikers.[1]
Ryder was recruited by Adam Steiner on the planet Dustball where he was working as a mercenary to pay off his gambling debts. One of the conditions of his employment was the rank of captain and command of a lance, to which Major Steiner agreed and placed him in charge of the medium lance, consisting only of Ryder's own Centurion.[citation needed]

Valten Ryder piloted his family's Centurion during the early stages of his time with the First Somerset Strikers, before receiving a prototype BSW-X1 Bushwacker.
