Known in the Inner Sphere as the Union-C, this DropShip class is a redesign of the venerable Union to better suit Clan needs, as the older ships taken from the Inner Sphere were no longer compatible with the Clans' military organization.[2]

Description[edit]

Many of the Star League In Exile's Unions were mothballed in the demobilization that followed the founding of the Pentagon worlds. They thus survived the destructive Pentagon Civil War, only to be reactivated in the aftermath, and were found useful in the colonization of the new Kerensky Cluster worlds. The new Clans required the redesign of the class to fit their new doctrines and increased the class's mass to 4,700 tons.[2]

Though each of the upper three decks contains its own accommodations, including recreation and mess facilities, the layout of the decks exemplifies the Clan's view on each caste. The laborers and support personnel use the lowest of the non-bay decks, which is also home to the life-support system. The Mechwarriors occupy the second deck, which contains the Union-C's escape pods, while the topmost deck belongs to the crew's single-occupancy cabins.[2]

Armament[edit]

The weaponry of the Union-C is based on laser weapons plus Gauss rifles and LRMs, but the ship was not designed for long fights as its ammunition can be depleted within 10 minutes. The Union-C matches the upgraded Inner Sphere Union introduced by Federated-Boeing in weaponry, though the Clan ship boasts better heat management and superior armor.

Cargo[edit]

The ship can carry a whole trinary of OmniMechs while being better armored and armed than its precursor. This does, however, come at the cost of an aerospace fighter complement. Up to 520 tons of cargo can be carried inside the DropShip separated into three decks—two for 'Mechs (5 on top and 10 on bottom) and one for miscellaneous cargo.[2]
