Medium and Light 'Mechs fill the 6th FedCom Corps roster, and what few heavy mechs are kept within two assault compamies. Intelligence gathering and recon play a large part in the RCT's operations, and the recon pilots are the best in the Sixth FedCom, usually of Veteran and Elite Status.

History

Formed in 3038, just a few months prior to the beginning of the War of 3039, the Sixth FedCom performed well in its first combat role on the world of Ancha. The RCT reduced and enveloped Kurita positions but were eventually forced to withdraw, though it was able to do so in good order. The Sixth FedCom after the war was assigned to the planet of Small World where the RCT sat out the Clan War, keeping an eye on the Draconis Combine border. The RCT took advantage of this time to stage training exercises on the world's tundra. In 3055 the unit was then transferred to Dalkeith on the Clan Front. When the Lyran Alliance seceded from the Federated Commonwealth in 3057, the Sixth FedCom left Dalkeith and returned to the Terran Corridor, rejecting Katherine Steiner-Davion's offer of a place in the newly formed LAAF. Not able to retake its place on Small World, now an independent world, the Sixth FedCom took up garrison on the world of Addicks where it has formed strong ties with the local population and the Addicks DMM. [2]

By 3062, the FedCom Civil War had begun and the Sixth FedCom, now professing loyalty to Katherine Steiner-Davion defended the world against the Davion Assault Guards and the First NAIS Cadre under the command of Field Marshal Sortek in March 3063. The Sixth FedCom did not aid the Addicks DMM during the opening stages of the invasion, citing the need to garrison the DQ complex. Soon the Addicks DMM was scattered and the First NAIS Cadre and the Davion Assault Guards encircled the DQ Complex and attempted to negotiate a peaceful solution. At this point the Sixth FedCom was joined by Fifth Lyran Guards who had followed the First NAIS Cadre from Shedar. At this point faced with two entrenched RCT, the order was given to attack. The battle started on April 27 and would last sixteen days before a two-day ceasefire was called. At this point the Sixth FedCom and Fifth Lyran Guards controlled a quarter of the DQ complex. After two days the fighting began again. By the the 5th of July the Sixth Fedcom and Fifth Lyran Guards were reduced to only 5 combat commands. The surviving personnel took a vote to decide on what to do with half choosing to escape while the other half chose to surrender. On 6th July four DropShips made an attempt to run the blockade with three of the DropShips escaping. The remainder, about 3,000 personnel surrendered to the Davion Assault Guards and the First NAIS Cadre, with the Sixth FedCom at this point being considered destroyed. [1]

Unit Colors and Insignia

  • Prior to adopting its Tiger's Head device for its unit insignia, the Sixth primarily used the FedCom Corps crest.[2]
  • The parade colors of the Sixth are the same as other FedCom Corps units: navy blue, with gold banding on the arms and legs of 'Mechs. Gold checkerboard patterns highlight panels on the upper torsos of 'Mechs and turrets of armor units. The Sixth's Baker Battalion and the Sixth FedCom Light Armor use a yellow tiger stripe camouflage paint scheme for training exercises, as they are the designated Opposition Force (OpFor) units in RCT training exercises.[2]

Notes

  • The Sixth FedCom RCT and the Eighth FedCom RCT appear to share their infantry regiments. This is likely due to a misprint or error, as the commanding officers of each subunit are different.
