Description
A Solaris VII BattleMech, the Ronin was introduced by Solaris Arms in the mid-3050s as the SA-RN Ronin. As their entry in the medium range weight class arenas, the original Ronin was based on a Centurion chassis.[4] By using an existing chassis rather than building a custom one, Solaris Arms was able to reduce development time and costs. This design philosophy, pioneered with the Ronin, remains in place today. The 'Mech features balanced speed, armor, and weaponry, making it very popular with the Solaris stables, but it is a rare sight on any other world.[2]
Weapons and Equipment
The Ronin is built on a Solaris Arms KL77-Modified endo steel chassis, and is powered by a Hermes 250 XL extralight engine that allows the 'Mech to move up to 86.4 km/h. Protection is provided by nine and a half tons of StarGuard CIV ferro-fibrous armor.
The Ronin's main armament is the Sutel Precision Line large pulse laser and a pair of Luxor 3R LRM-10 launchers fed by two tons of ammunition. These are backed up by a single Diverse Optics ER small laser, a claw, and two Solaris Arms "Pepperspray" M-Pods. The 'Mech's waste heat is managed by the standard 10 double heat sinks.
Variants
- SA-RN
- The original model used four Artemis IV FCS-guided SRM-4 launchers protected by CASE instead of the LRM-10 launchers on the SA-RN7. It also sported a prototype claw, lacks the ER small laser, and has slightly less armor. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = 1,084[5]
Design Quirks
The Ronin is subject to the following Design Quirk:[6]
