The Twelfth Triarii Protectors were formed up after the eruption of general warfare across the Inner Sphere in the thirty-second century, with the core of the new command being drawn from two distinct sources: mercenaries, who had found themselves stranded on Outreach, and the survivors of the Fourth Triarii Protectors.[1]
After the creation of Fortress Republic the Twelfth continued to hold to the same tenet that the Fourth had held to, the idea that weapons of war could be used as a force for good; the Twelfth continued to use its BattleMechs for peaceful purposes, which attracted the attention of others in the Republic Armed Forces. The Sphere Intelligence Service conducted an analysis of the Twelfth's work and the regions the command had garrisoned, an analysis that was completed in March 3143 and which identified that in many of the regions loyalty to the Republic of the Sphere was higher than the norm. This led the High Command to consider directing other units to adopt the same practice.[1]
Dark Age[edit]
In 3149, as part of Operation ERUPTIO, the Twelfth Triarii Protectors and XII Principes Guards attacked Quentin. The Triarii smashed communications towers, supply depots, and other military infrastructure while the Guards held off the Combine defenders.[3]
They then landed on Robinson with multiple other Republic regiments. While there they faced the 1st Ghost, and inflicted heady losses on other DCMS forces. After forcing the DCMS to withdraw from Robinson, the Twelfth remained on the world with the other members of their army group as a garrison force.[4]
In April 3150, they rearmed and joined up with other Republic forces on Shiloh. As part of Second Army Group, their first assignment was to attack Phecda. They forced the Eleventh Battle Cluster to retreat to Wyatt. They then relocated to Gacrux to further disrupt Clan Wolf's plans. While on Gacrux, they were attacked by the Bronze Keshik, Green Keshik, 271st Wolf Guard Assault Cluster, and the Ninety-third Wolf Striker Cluster. The Wolves overran the Twelfth's positions, and forced them to retreat. This retreat became a rout when the Wolves killed Colonel Shiroyama. The Wolves trapped the Twelfth's troops and destroyed them to the last soldier.[2]
