The Fox-class corvette Kathil was originally going to bear the name FCS Sarna, but was renamed prior to entering service. Under construction at the New Syrtis Shipyards in 3062,[1] the Kathil was launched in 3063 and subsequently served Duke George Michael Hasek throughout the FedCom Civil War, interdicting the Wernke system and denying Marshal Donna Iona and the Twenty-second Avalon Hussars any chance to send supplies out of the system.[2] The Kathil was one of twelve Fox-class WarShips to remain in service with the AFFS after the devastation of the Civil War.[3]
During the Jihad, the Word of Blake struck at a number of Federated Suns worlds; one of these was the world of Brusett in the Capellan March which was hit by the Twenty-second Protectorate Militia Division on 30 May 3075. The Federated Suns responded by mustering and deploying a small flotilla of ships including the FSS Kathil to the system to stave off an anticipated follow-up attack by the Taurian Concordat.[4][5]
Taurian forces arrived in the Brusett system in late June, and on the 30th of June the Quixote-class frigate TCS Vendetta and the Kathil battled above the planet; the Vendetta was forced to retreat, but not before it had destroyed the Kathil. Several major cities on the planet suffered horrendous collateral damage due to the nuclear weapons both sides used in orbit and within the planetary atmosphere.[4][5][6]
