The 173rd BattleMech Division was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army.

In 2764, the unit was stationed on Victoria^[1], assigned as a part of the LIV Corps, Fourth Army, to District 3 of the Federated Suns Military Region but was moved to an undisclosed area of the Periphery to take part in the Periphery Uprising by 2765.^[2]. The 173th survived the war and the Hegemony Campaign, and followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus in 2784.^[2]

As an SLDF BattleMech Division the 173rd would have been composed with two Brigades of 'Mech regiments and one brigade of Mechanized Infantry regiments.^[4]
