History
The First Regimental Combat Team as part of the Tenth Army formed the first wave of reinforcement sent to quell the uprising in the Magistracy of Canopus in 2765. As they moved forward to relieve the defenders of the besieged forts they were struck by the Secret Army and only further troops arriving prevented disaster. As the campaign progressed in theatre commander Joan Brandt ordered the Tenth along with the Ninth Army to push deeper into the Magistracy in order to isolate the capital, and by 2767 plans were underway to capture Canopus when General Kerensky ordered a cessation of hostilities.[1]
In 2771 General DeChavilier order the 1st RCT along with all other surviving Regimental Combat Teams to start reconnaissance probes and raids into Amaris held world in the Hegemony as part of Operation Intruder. During this operation the 138th Dragoons dropped on to Chisholm and were successful in creating an armed resistance cell on the planet. These raids continued for a year and saw a very heavy casualty rate. General Kerensky wished to rest the troops of Operation Intruder, but the will to fight was so strong that he assigned them as pathfinder units for the main invasion.[2]

Notes
The Star League sourcebook notes that both the 75th Light Horse and the 195th Light Horse were destroyed in the fighting in the Periphery, however Historical: Liberation of Terra Volume 1 states that the 1st RCT had three regiments at after the conclusion of the Periphery campaign. It is unclear if this was a combination of survivors of the two Light Horse units or a new regiment completely.
