Curtiss Hydroponics (also referred to as Curtiss Hydrosystems), listed as "CHydro" on the stock market, was a major industrial conglomerate based on Paradise in the Free Worlds League.[2]

History

Originally, Curtiss Hydroponics was a small manufacturer of hydroponic food production systems before taking a contract from the Star League in 2618 to manufacturing and distributing the TriFil water purification system. Their success nearly drove the Ryan Cartel bankrupt, and in 2668 Curtiss ended up purchasing all of the Ryan Cartel's assets which they continued to operate as their own Ryan Iceship Division.[2]

After the Amaris Civil War concluded and the Star League was disbanded shortly after, the patent to the TriFil process became the property of Curtiss Hydroponics.[3] Sensing war on the horizon, Curtiss pumped its profits into amassing a vast stockpile of essential chemicals and replacement parts, even reinvesting in new iceships which hadn't been done in nearly two centuries. During the Succession Wars, water purification production facilities became military targets, yet due to the stockpiling, 70–80% of Marik worlds remained supplied with pure water.[2]

Iceships continued to be in relied upon well into the thirty-first century, and the Ryan Iceship Division's fleet, which grew to fifty-one vessels by 3067, was the sole lifeline of water to over a dozen League worlds along with a few Capellan worlds on occasion.[1][4]

Curtiss Hydroponics' Power Systems Division branched into the IndustrialMech market. Following the destruction of its Curtiss Militech BattleMech factory on Paradise in 3080 and the imposition of a moratorium on BattleMech construction by Devlin Stone, Curtiss withdrew from the military market and focused instead on the civilian sector reconstruction following the Jihad. The move into IndustrialMechs was thought of as a way to both supply the massive reconstruction effort and circumvent the BattleMech restrictions at the same time.[5]

Executive Directors

Throughout most of its history, Curtiss Hydroponics had been managed by a triumvirate of executive directors, one of whom was always of the Wong family.[4]
