Description

Sluggish but with a large, powerful loadout, the Executioner, also known as the Executioner-B or Gladiator-B after the introduction of the Executioner in 3001[3] (hereafter, the original Executioner will be referred to as Executioner-B for clarity), is an Assault OmniMech introduced by Clan Burrock in the middle of the Golden Century[4]. ilKhan Zenos Danforth, who presided over the OmniMech Trials, ostensibly to act as a neutral arbitrator[5][6], privately pursued an agenda allowing Clan Burrock to acquire OmniMech Technology before other Clans. Clan Burrock's combat specialty had evolved since Operation: KLONDIKE; the Burrocks designed the Executioner-B to regain their advantage in Assault-class BattleMech combat. The Executioner-B was a primary competitor of Clan Coyote's Warlock OmniMech. The Executioner-B remained common in the Clan Homeworlds past the introduction of Clan Ghost Bear's upgraded Executioner in 3001[3]. Most remaining Executioner-Bs are found in the toumans of Clans Ghost Bear and Star Adder.[4].

The Executioner-B uses the modest MechFusion 285 XL XL Engine, allowing it a top speed of 54 km/h, below average for Clan Assault 'Mechs. Additionally, the Executioner-B's sluggish speed, poor handling, and poor power-distribution can make it challenging to optimally engage its adversary. A pair of fixed Pryzhok WM10 jump jets give the 'Mech the ability to propel itself 60 meters to clear small obstacles. While the Executioner-B is not able to keep up with lighter 'Mechs, it compensates for this weakness but mounting 47 tons of OmniPods. The Executioner-B also carries fourteen tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor, more than its successor, the Executioner. Sixteen double heat sinks are often insufficient to cool the Executioner-B, so many configurations add additional heat sinks.[4]

Weapons and Equipment

The Executioner-B Primary Configuration features twin Large Pulse Lasers in the right arm. The right torso is used to mount twin Ultra AC/2s, whose two tons of ammo is spread between the right torso and arm. An Ultra AC/20 is carried in the left arm along with one ton of ammo. The left torso housed three more tons of ammo for this massive gun, along with an ER PPC. One additional double heat sink is added to the right arm, bringing the total to 17, which is far from enough to keep this machine running cool[7].

Alternate Configurations

  • Executioner-B Alternate Configuration A
Similar to the Annihilator, each arm of the Executioner-B Alternate Configuration A mounts both an LB 10-X Autocannon and an Ultra AC/10. This variant has limited staying power on the battlefield, though, as it only carries six tons of ammo. Two tons of LB-X and Ultra ammo is stored in the left torso and two additional tons of Ultra ammo is stored in the right. Two right torso–mounted ER Small Lasers are the 'Mech's only backup weaponry. BV (2.0) = 2,194[8]
  • Executioner-B Alternate Configuration B
A deadly sniper, the B is a threat to anything on the battlefield. Each arm carries a Gauss Rifle and an additional double heat sink. Five tons of ammo is spread between the side torsos and right arm. Each side torso also houses an ER Large Laser and two Medium Pulse Lasers. BV (2.0) = 3,157[8]
  • Executioner-B Alternate Configuration C
Another long-range sniper, the C is potentially even deadlier than the B, but crippling heat issues hamper this variant’s effectiveness. Mounting a total of four ER PPCs, two per arm, even the addition of four extra double heat sinks doesn’t bring this variant anywhere near heat efficiency. Additionally, each arm carries an Ultra AC/5 with a two-ton ammo magazine in its corresponding side torso. Somewhat questionably, the right torso also mounts two SRM-2s and two tons of ammo for them. BV (2.0) = 2,979[9]

Design Quirks

The Battle Cobra has the following Design Quirk:[10]

Related OmniMechs

  • Executioner - In the late 2900s, Clan Ghost Bear acquired design schematics for the Executioner-B. The Ghost Bears attempted to use these plans to design a new, totem OmniMech. Instead, they ultimately chose to increase the Executioner-B's speed by replacing the MechFusion 285 XL with a Heavy Force 380 XL Fusion Engine and installing MASC. The additional design requirements of creating a totem 'Mech would be fulfilled by a second, conventional BattleMech, the Kodiak[11]

Notes

In German products referring to the Executioner, the unit's proper Clan name was left unchanged. The unit's proper Inner Sphere name was perfectly translated to Henker.
