Plot summary[edit]
On Coventry, a lance of Wolf's Dragoons fights Clan Jade Falcon forces. The lance, the third in Delta Regiment's Baker Company, includes two abtakha: Samson Furey, a longtime Dragoon, and Barron, a newly taken bondsman from the Falcons. Barron adjusts slowly to a new, zellbrigen-violating way of fighting.
An engagement with a Falcon star proves difficult for the lance. In particular, a Marauder IIC deals severe damage to much of the lance, disabling Benicio Cruz's Enforcer and dealing severe damage to others. With Samson unconscious and his Black Hawk almost defeated, and with the Marauder IIC looming, it is Barron, finally disregarding zellbrigen, who fells the powerful hostile 'Mech.
