Arc-Royal Protocols

The Arc-Royal Protocols were a treaty signed between the Lyran Alliance and Clan Wolf-in-Exile in 3067.

Description[edit]

The Protocols were signed in the wake of the FedCom Civil War and aimed to end the mutual suspicion between Katherine Steiner-Davion and the Arc-Royal Defense Cordon.[1] Archon Peter Steiner-Davion formally recognized the Exiles as an independent and sovereign entity which existed within the larger framework of the Lyran state,[2] In return, Khan Phelan Kell knelt to the Archon, swearing an oath to protect the Alliance and the Inner Sphere from Clan aggression.[3] Now formally recognizing each other as allies, the Lyrans and Exiles exchanged ambassadors. Lord-Colonel Brendon Sinclair represented the Alliance on Arc-Royal while Star Colonel Darryl Radick joined Peter's court on Tharkad.[4]

Effects[edit]

While the agreement formalized exactly what the relationship between the Lyrans and Exiles would be going forward, and recognized the Exiles' right to govern themselves as they saw fit within the greater Alliance, other powerful leaders in the Alliance saw it as an opportunity to increase the scope of their powers. Most notably, Robert Kelswa-Steiner and his wife, Hermione Aten, began interfering with Lyran efforts to reinstate national authority over the Skye Province under the grounds that they were exercising the same "internal independence" practiced by the Exiles.[2] Bertram R. Habeas saw this movement as potentially heralding a seismic shift in the power structure of the Lyran Alliance.[5]
