Clan Coyote

Clan Coyote was forged by Khan Dana Kufahl, a member of the anti-Amaris resistance on Terra called "Spirit of the Coyotes." While training on Strana Mechty, the Kufahl witnessed a pack of Coyotes and Wolves working together to bring down their prey. Building on this vision, Khan Kufahl and the Coyotes worked closely with Clan Wolf, training with them and fraternizing with them, forging a close bond that was exemplified in the love affair between Dana Kufahl and Andrey Kerensky, a member of Clan Wolf and younger brother of Nicholas Kerensky. Clan Coyote liberated Babylon during Operation Klondike.

History

Clan Coyote rose to prominence with its development of the OmniMech, a 'Mech capable of being modified to fit its mission parameters. Outfitting their touman with OmniMechs, Clan Coyote won exclusive possession of five worlds and at their height controlled all or part of twenty worlds in the Kerensky Cluster.

Other Clans challenged Clan Coyote for the OmniMech technology. Clan Jade Falcon was the first to win the OmniMech, but the Coyotes gave the Wolves data on the unit that won the OmniMech and allowed the Wolves to win the design specifications from the Falcons.

When Clan Wolf designed the Elemental armor and the Jade Falcons won it, the Wolves returned the favor and allowed the Coyotes information to best the Falcons for the Elemental.

However, when Kindraa Smythe-Jewell of Clan Fire Mandrill won the OmniMech using deceptive bidding tactics the Coyotes were outraged. When the Smythe-Jewels used a similar tactic in winning Elemental breeding protocols from Clan Hell's Horses a few years later, the Coyotes entered into an agreement with the Horses to punish the Smythe-Jewels. The Coyotes let the Horses use Coyote units in a contract bid that completely crushed the Kindraa and the Coyotes won half the genetic legacies of the Kindraa, the bondsmen, and their enclave on Foster and the friendship of the Horses.

During the Political Century, eight Crusader Coyote Bloodname House leaders entered into a plot with Star Adder saKhan Carson Graves to wrest control of the Coyotes away from the Wardens. When the plot by the leaders of eight Coyote Bloodname houses was uncovered, the Coyotes Reaved (for all intents and purposes Annihilating) the Christofferson, Gruber, Kautz, Kielman, Masino, Rosanske, Smith, and Tangen Bloodnames in what became known as the Blood Scandal. The furious Coyotes demanded retribution from the Star Adders for the act of their rogue saKhan. The Star Adders sent Carson Grave to the Coyotes who executed him and destroyed his genetic legacy, but because the Adders did not destroy the Graves bloodline, the Coyotes maintained a grudge against the Star Adders.

A Cloud Cobra Khan, Tobias Khatib, assassinated a Coyote ilKhan and took his place. When it was discovered that the Khatib was behind it, he was executed and the Coyotes struck at the Cloud Cobras. The Coyotes dealt the Cobras heavy blows, but still lost territory on Brim and Homer. This has lead to a feud between the Coyotes and Cobras. The new alliance between the Star Adders and Cloud Cobras has only deepened the Coyote resentment.

Recently, the efforts of Khan Sullivan Koga to revitalize her Clan have come to fruition in the form of a re-organized military and the development of several new BattleMechs, the most notable, being the Savage Coyote OmniMech, which employs Advanced Tactical Missiles as its primary weaponry. However, the death of Khan Koga on Huntress and the ill-fated Coyote attack on the Babylon Diet have seriously hindered this Clan's efforts for a brighter future.

Also attributing to the Coyote's waning influence is the lack of mobility amongst their more heavily used 'Mechs. The Savage Coyote OmniMech and Canis second-line 'Mech are incredibly powerful, however both are slower than other 'Mechs of their weight class. This disadvantage has hurt the Coyotes to such a degree that they created an escort 'Mech, the Rabid Coyote, to run as higher speed support for these powerful but slow assets. This has caused much strife within Clan Coyote, due to the fact that 'Mechs playing support for one another is an alien concept in the Clan way of battle.

Touman

The Coyotes are known for their spiritual beliefs bearing cultural stylings of the ancient Terran Native Americans and their traditional Warden views. Their scientists are among the best in Clan space and their touman still fields more OmniMechs than any other.

Clan Coyote had one of the largest touman and one of the most extensive territories of all the Clans. When the Crusader/Warden debates began, the Coyotes joined the Wolves as Wardens and dominated the Grand Council for decades.

However, following the Dragoon Compromise, the Crusaders took out their frustration on the Coyotes costing them a great deal of their strength and territory. By the time Operation Revival came around, the Coyotes were too weak to participate in the invasion.

While the Coyotes are not as strong as they once were, they are still vibrant enough to outlast several Clans which have been Abjured, Absorbed, or Annihilated in recent years. The Coyotes have recently been reorganizing their touman.

Allies and enemies

The Coyotes were staunch allies of the Ghost Bears, Diamond Sharks, and the Wolves until the Refusal War. The traditional Coyote-Wolf ties were weakened by the removal of the Warden Wolves to the Inner Sphere and the ascension of the Crusaders in the reborn Wolf Clan. Relations with them are likely to deteriorate. The Coyotes still maintain respect and honor for the Hell's Horses, which the Horses return.

The Fire Mandrill still harbor a grudge over the destruction of Kindraa Smythe-Jewel which is echoed by the Blood Spirits, friends of the late Kindraa.

The Jade Falcons and Smoke Jaguars were always enemies of the Coyotes, but the Coyotes maintain most of their anger for the Star Adders and Cloud Cobras.

Homeworlds

The Coyote's control six worlds. Their capital is Tamaron.
