Plot summary[edit]

Launching from the Excalibur-class DropShip Blue Corona, Stingray pilot Eric Domingo and his wingman Patyr fight a delaying action against the forces of Victor Steiner-Davion to cover the retreating loyalist DropShips. Over the course of the intense dogfighting, Patyr's fighter is destroyed and Eric ends up dropping through New Avalon's atmosphere in a badly damaged craft, with a light enemy fighter in pursuit. He manages to destroy the enemy fighter but cannot save his own craft from the pull of gravity. Regretting the choices he made that led up to this point, Eric decides he perhaps needs to talk to the other pilot who ejected safely, and prepares to crashland his own doomed spacecraft nearby.
