The DropShip Lion's Heart was listed as part of the attached support vessels of the 328th Assault Cluster of Clan Wolf in a ComStar document dated 1 December 3052, as "Union Class Command DropShip".[1]

Exact Class

It should be noted that sources from the early Clan Invasion era, like the ComStar report naming the Lion's Heart, have been known to (mis-)report Clan DropShips of the Broadsword, Union-C and Overlord-C classes in particular as vessels of equivalent Inner Sphere classes, namely the Leopard, Union, and Overlord.[2] This leaves a distinct possibility that the Lion's Heart was in fact a Union-C. However, at the same time, other sources differentiated between these designs and still observed both Clan designs and their Inner Sphere predecessor designs serving side-by-side among the invading Clans.[3] For a lack of conclusive evidence to the contrary, the notion that the Lion's Heart was a Union (and not a Union-C) is therefore taken at face value for the purpose of this article.

Further, while the ComStar document does name certain individual vessels as "Command DropShips", it remains unclear if this describes their configuration or merely their role. The Lion's Heart could thus be a "Command Union" variant, in the fashion of the "Command Overlord" variant of the Overlord-class DropShip. or merely a regular Union serving in a command role. (Unlike the Overlord, no specific "Command" variant was mentioned to exist for the Union.)
