Planetary History[edit]

One of three colony worlds established by the Marian Hegemony between 3043 and 3045,[24] the world of Marius' Tears was originally named Herculaneum. Settled under the auspices of the colonization program headed up by the son of then-Imperator Marius O'Reilly, the world was renamed after Imperator Marius died in what was officially determined to be a climbing accident on Herculaneum in 3048. After Sean O'Reilly returned to Alphard and assumed rulership of the Hegemony, now under the title Caesar, he immediately instituted a ten-day mourning period and renamed the planet Marius' Tears.
