Description[edit]

The Pile Driver is a piece of construction equipment that is rarely seen on the battlefield. Though it has been used by the arena fighters on Solaris,[5] the interference with other equipment and lack of range mean it's not popular with the regular armies of the Inner Sphere. Instead, the Pile Driver is usually found on IndustrialMechs that are for construction.[1]

Essentially a giant hammer, the Pile Driver uses a massive weight to drive poles, pipes, and conduits into the ground. In certain mining operations, Pile Drivers are used to drive massive metal spikes through hardened rock. Though any combat unit that gets between the ground and the Pile Driver is in for a rough time, the Pile Driver is massive and clumsy. For these reasons it is rare to see a Pile Driver in combat.[1]

Game Rules[edit]

The Pile Driver inflicts 9 points of damage on any target it hits or 9+1d6 versus buildings.[7] As the Pile Driver is so massive and clumsy, any to-hit roll suffers a +2 penalty.[8]

Bipedal 'Mechs can carry a Pile Driver in each arm, but must remove the hand and lower arm actuator to do so. Quad 'Mechs can mount a single Pile Driver in each side torso. A Pile Driver may not be mounted in any area that mounts a Chainsaw, Dual Saw, Mining Drill, Rock Cutter, Wrecking Ball, Combine, or Backhoe.[1]
