The Ral system[1] was was located in Federated Suns space as of 3025, and named alongside Dragon's Field and Hamlin as a possible place to draw 'Mech units from for the counterattack to retake Stein's Folly in that year.[2]
Later, when moving from Stein's Folly to Argyle, Ardan Sortek and his associates travelled via Dragon's Field (one jump from Stein's Folly), Hamlin (one jump from Dragon's Field), Ral (implicitly one jump from Hamlin) and then other (unspecified) jump points, in that order, with the last being Vincent and then Argyle.[3] (The overall distance between Stein's Folly and Argyle is around 130 light years, and could conceivably be covered in five jumps.)
For some unspecified reason, Sortek's party felt they had to hire a JumpShip to a phony destination at Hamlin, and only revealed Ral as their real destination to the captain at gunpoint.[3] This seems to indicate that the Ral system was somehow special, possibly off-limits to regular jump traffic.
Upon arriving in the Ral system, Sortek found four other JumpShips recharging their drives nearby and would go on to hijack one of these for the next leg of his journey.[1]

Notes
- Dragon's Field, Hamlin and Ral (as well as Vincent and New Cleveland), as far as can be determined, were never mentioned except in this one novel nor shown on any published map. As such, their existence is canon but their exact location and even nature is unclear.
- The Federated Suns–and indeed all Successor States–have been known to make use of secret transit systems in their space, uninhabited (or sparsely inhabited) systems used as recharging stopovers for their militaries. Dragon's Field, Hamlin and Ral (and possibly Vincent) might be such transit systems.
- There is an official ruling on the BattleTech Forum (in the "Ask the Writers" section, which is reserved for official rulings) by Øystein Tvedten, Catalyst Game Labs's designated map expert, to the effect that the 3025 era maps are deemed "complete" and there are no inhabited systems that don't show up on the maps (except for Hidden Systems). Any unmapped worlds could thus be assumed to be secondary settled planets in star systems that go by different names on the map, or otherwise be codenames or secondary names.
