Unit Description[edit]

The First Dieron Regulars was a twenty-eighth century Draconis Combine BattleMech regiment.[2]

History[edit]

Formation[edit]

Like the other regiments of the Dieron Regulars, the First Dieron Regulars were notionally a direct descendant of the three thousand recruits the Dieron Federation tithed to the Alliance of Galedon in 2310, to meet Coordinator Shiro Kurita's demands. Shiro Kurita kept the name of the Dieron Regulars alive after Dieron defected to the Terran Hegemony in 2316, as both a threat and a promise that Dieron and the other nearby worlds that had left the Alliance to join the Hegemony would one day be a part of House Kurita's empire again.[1]

Star League Era[edit]

Throughout the Star League era the Dieron Regulars were used in part as a propaganda tool by the Draconis Combine; depicted as "exiles waiting to go home", the First and the other regiments of the Dieron Regulars spent half of each year stationed on Combine worlds in the Benjamin Military District near the border with the Hegemony, and were held up as "the hope of the future". Officers assigned to the Regulars were accordingly heavily trained in protocol and diplomacy.[1]

For the other half of each year, the Regulars were rotated to interior worlds for additional training and strengthening and frequently saw action against bandits, where they demonstrated that they were pragmatic, well-trained, and well-led regular forces rather than show troops. Recruitment into the Dieron Regulars was somewhat restrictive; recruits were vetted, with those descended from the original three thousand members of the loyal Dieron draft receiving the highest priority for recruitment, followed by those from worlds close to Dieron, and then those from other worlds within the Benjamin Military District. In terms of training, the highest-priority recruits were those Sun Zhang Military Academy graduates descended from the Dieron draft; graduates of the Dieron Warriors' Academy with a similar background received the next highest priority.[1]

Dark Age Era[edit]

The First remained on Dieron with a large amount of ISF "observers" within its ranks, due to it being the favored unit of former Warlord Katana Tormark and its relations with her replacement and its current commander.[3]

When the Republic launched Operation ERUPTIO against Dieron on March 5th, 3149, the First and Second Dieron Regulars were caught unawares and hammered by the RAF. Dieron's Warlord, Tai-shu Kambei Okamoto, ordered the First to board their DropShips and reinforce the beleaguered Second, but instead, the regiment was forced to quit the planet altogether.[4]

In June, the First Dieron participated in Wave One of Operation TIAMAT, striking Ronel alongside the Second An Ting Legion. The First's soldiers picked off the demoralized and undersupplied Second Ceti Hussars piecemeal until the remaining Davion troops retreated offworld.[5]

Colors and Unit Insignia[edit]

The pragmatism of the Dieron Regulars means they prefer to use only battlefield-appropriate camouflage schemes. If required, all Dieron Regulars regiments paint their equipment white with gold trim, with the amount of gold signifying their level of experience. The Kuritan Dragon is fixed to a BattleMech's right shoulder, with the Dieron District's starburst insignia below it. Regimental Insignias are painted on the upper left legs. Conventional machines paint the insignias in their corresponding locations.[9][10]
