John Lassenerra was an officer of Clan Hell's Horses who fought in the Word of Blake Jihad.[1]

Jihad Era[edit]
John was a trueborn warrior of Clan Hell's Horses who, by 3078, not only had managed to reach the rank of Star Colonel, but also to win a Lassenerra (Bloodname) and took command of the Eleventh Mechanized Cavalry Cluster.[2]
The Khan of his Clan had sent his Cluster to join Stone's Coalition, but his Task Force commander, Duchess Alys Rousset-Marik, had put his unit in reserve while they fought to liberate the planet Hsien. On 22 January, he attended a meeting at Alys's headquarters. She informed those present about the arrival of two regiments of the Capellan Confederation on planet. The Capellans refused to talk, attacking Stone's Coalition forces and the Blakists too. The duchess ordered the Colonel to attack the Capellans' most elite unit, the 4th Tau Ceti Rangers and crush them, killing as many as he can until she ordered him to stop, to force the Capellans to negotiate. The Clanners viewed that unit, descendant of one of the SLDF which hadn't joined Operation Exodus, as traitors, and he showed a deep hate towards them, and being happy to obey.[3]
Later, Alys presented to Lassenerra the Lieutenant Junior Grade Kendra Slavoski: as his Cluster was low on auxiliaries, the duchess wanted to reinforce it with Kendra's unit, Third Cole Harbour Support Battalion. John began testing her competence and knowledge before departing in a hoverbike to his Cluster's HQ.[4]
Once in the Horses' Mobile HQ, Kendra reported to the Star Colonel, and was welcomed by another officer, Nova Captain Ernesto Ravenwater, which introduced her to Point Commander Amanda, the coregn, logistical officer of the Cluster. When the Lieutenant suggested using the Cluster's ProtoMech Star, Lassenerra said her than wanted to keep then hidden for the Rangers, for if they didn't know its existence. John's tone was serious, implying he doesn't believe Kendra will be up to the task. After being dismissed, the Lieutenant talked to Amanda, and Kendra had to solve their problems in a Circle of Equals. There, she easily win, taking the command of all logistics into the Cluster. After the fight, the Colonel ordered Kendra to repair a group of Horses' tanks which had been attacked meanwhile.[2]
Soon after, the commanding officer of the Rangers, Sang-shao Daniel Jax, contacted the Horses and both leaders discussed the fight terms, exchanging threats and insults. The Capellan commander was so sure of its victory than only leaved his MASH units out of the battle. Kendra correctly guessed his intentions to attack the Horses' rear to capture supplies and technicians, and she warned Lassenerra. The Star Colonel ordered her to go with him, to see how she fight in a 'Mech.[5]
When preparing for battle, Lassenerra suspected about Kendra's old Cooling Suit and uncovered than she hadn't received formal training. He ordered her to keep close to him, and promised to return her to the duchess after the battle. After the Horses began moving to a ridge, the Colonel gave Kendra orders about the artillery use in the battle, and congratulated her about her careful dispositions of the logistic units.
Lassenerra directed the different units from the front lines, with his 'Mech being damaged. He ordered Kendra to direct the artillery with very precise instructions. When the Rangers retreated, the Horses began killing them all. Only after Kendra pleaded to the Colonel he ordered to take some alive. After the Capellans launched mines, he ordered his Cluster to cease the advance.[6]
After the battle, while their 'Mechs were being repaired, he gave Kendra a Cooling Suit. Minutes later, the place was attacked by a group of Battlefield Infiltration Units. He managed to kill two of them, and Kendra, two more. He congratulated the Lieutenant for her work, and when she threw for her first killings, Lassenerra was very comprehensive.
During the last assault of air and ground units against the Rangers' landing zone, the Colonel's 'Mech was on the front lines. The Rangers were crushed, and its commander began calling Lassenerra, but he ignored him, focusing in slaughtering any Ranger. Kendra again appealed to the Star Colonel to stop the killing. Making appeal to his honor, the Colonel accepted, ordering a cease fire, but finished the communication telling he doesn't consider the Rangers were an elite unit.[7]
In a later meeting with the duchess, the Star Colonel, the day 24th, he gave Alys a needler taken from the Death Commandos as a present, thanking her for the opportunity to fight. Both he and Kendra were congratulated by their work. Lassenerra pretended than never had said wanting to return Kendra to the duchess.[8]
