History[edit]

Formation[edit]

The Second actually predated the formation of the Draconis Combine, having been established in 2295, serving as a training cadre for the Galedon Military Academy. Academy graduates spend two years in this regiment, after which the best have their choice of duty in any of the Galedon Regular units while the others are assigned as needed in 6-month intervals. The top 20 percent remain in the Galedon Regulars while another 75 percent are assigned throughout the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery. The last 5 percent are given "less-than-honorable" postings to sink units.[3]

Star League Era[edit]

During the Star League era the Second Galedon Regulars shared a common structure with the other regiments of the Galedon Regulars, due to the threat posed by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. This common structure saw the Second assigned a group of conventional regiments for support—five armor regiments and five infantry regiments, an artillery regiment, and a reinforced aerospace fighter wing. Second only to the Sword of Light regiments in priority, the various Galedon Regulars regiments had excellent levels of supplies, and a high level of access to new BattleMechs and equipment.[4]

Third Succession War[edit]

The Second Galedon participated in the Galtor campaign in 3025, though their participation was limited to covering the withdrawal of the Eighth Galedon Regulars and the Second Amphigean Light Assault Group,[5] where the unit suffered 75% casualties.[6]

The Second Galedon Regulars were destroyed by the Seventeenth Avalon Hussars on Matsuida when the Davion unit invaded the Combine under the direction of Duke James Sandoval.[8][9][1]

Star League Era[edit]

Due to the high number of Sun Zhang Military Academy and Galedon Military Academy recruits within the Galedon Regulars, the Regulars often displayed fanatical loyalty and courage. However, the elitism displayed by these same recruits led to poor coordination between the Regulars and the attached conventional forces, who were often used as cannon fodder.[4]

Succession Wars[edit]

From 3025 through the Clan Invasion, the unit specialized in open field battles.[11] Its inexperienced warriors tend to be outmaneuvered in large-scale combat or close quarters.[3]

- At this point in time the Regulars were a medium-weight regiment stationed on McComb and was operating at full strength.[12] In 2821 the unit was stationed on Arlington and was operating at just above one-third of full strength.[12]

Given the abundance of information that says otherwise throughout their history and the unit's service as a training cadre for the GMA, CM:K is believed to be in error.

The Galedon Regulars favor light-colored schemes for their 'Mechs. White, tan, and light gray dominate. For parade use, they maintain a gray base with white striping,[19] a gray with light blue stripes, or tan with white stripes. The Galedon brigade insignia is a gray/white katana over a field with one blue and one black triangle. The insignia is placed on the upper right leg of the unit's BattleMechs or fuselage of aerospace fighters.[20][21]

The Second Galedon’s regimental banner is a blue-bordered, white pennon with a striking whip emblazoned on it. The banner is either carried or attached to a BattleMech, aerospace fighter, or vehicle.[3]
