Overview

The Two-Hundred Forty-second Royal Mechanized Infantry Division was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army. It was one of the SLDF's Royal units, which consisted of troops from the Terran Hegemony.

History

The Division was formed on Terra in 2606 around troops familiar with the difficulties of desert warfare. Prior to the Fall of the Star League, the unit still received most of its recruits from Terra and Mars.[1]

In 2764, the unit was stationed on Sakhara V[2], assigned as a part of the XXXIII Corps, Third Army, to District 2 of the Federated Suns Military Region but was moved to an undisclosed area of the Periphery to take part in the Periphery Uprising by 2765.[3] The 242nd survived the war and the Hegemony Campaign, and followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus in 2784.[3]

Composition Notes

As the only Royal Division in the XXXIII Corps (Star League), the 242nd was over strength when compared with other divisions. In addition, each of regiments within the Division had an additional company of Phoenix Hawk Land-Air 'Mechs to act as scouts.[4]

Officers

The commanding officer in 2764 is Major General Gaia London.[5]
