Latest edition of the universe booklet, retitled Inner Sphere at a Glance

A booklet titled Classic BattleTech Universe was included with the 2003 Classic BattleTech Boxed Set by FanPro, and was also offered for free PDF download as a promotional product first by FanPro's and later by Catalyst Game Labs from their respective BattleTech website, the now defunct classicbattletech.com site.[1]

The booklet remained essentially unchanged for the 2007 Classic BattleTech Introductory Box Set except for being retitled to Inner Sphere at a Glance, and it is arguably better known under that name now.

Description

Beginning with the Introduction to BattleTech booklet that FASA had included in the 1996 BattleTech, Fourth Edition boxed set, a second booklet besides the actual BattleTech rulebook was included with the game's core boxed set that contained background information about the BattleTech universe. While the booklet in FASA's fourth edition also contained the quick start rules, it was revised by FanPro for their new 2003 edition of the boxed set to be purely a setting book and titled simply Classic BattleTech Universe.

Despite some changes to its layout, minor editorial changes to its content and being renamed to Inner Sphere at a Glance after 2007, it has remained largely unchanged ever since. Most importantly, Inner Sphere at a Glance added two chapters named "The Mechanics of Assault" (a brief overview of space travel mechanics in BattleTech) and "Mission Types".
