Description
Originally proposed by Archon Adam Steiner, the Gauntlet is a Medium Class OmniMech which was manufactured for the Armed Force of the Lyran Commonwealth. Finally produced by Coventry Metal Works after nearly 30 years since it was proposed by the late Archon. The OmniMech was designed as swift cavalry unit, capable of keeping up lighter 'Mechs while being bring the flexibly and firepower of a Medium 'Mech. In years to develop the design, many senior generals of the LCAF opposed the symbolic design. When it became available, the Gauntlet ended up being passed off from these social generals to regular commands which welcomed, especially by the House Steiner's Lightning Companies.[3]
Armament and Capacities
The Gauntlet is designed as powerful and swift machine, which at its heart is a Defiance 275-rated Light Fusion Engine which supported by a sturdy Coventry GTL-Flex Endo Steel frame. In addition to its 21 Omni Pod capacity, the 'Mech has been given additional boost of speed in combat, is fixed mounted MASC.
Designers lay out the 'Mech's Primary Configuration with two powerful long-to-medium ranged weapons. The 'Mechs principle firepower comes from its right armed mounted Heavy PPC. While in other arm is its long range weapon, Class 10 Thunderbolt Missile with two tons ammunition protected by CASE. The 'Mech speed further increased thanks to a Omni-pod mounted Supercharger.[4]
Alternate Configurations
- A Config. - Armed with powerful mix of missile and long-range light weaponry, the A has pair of 7-tubed Multi-Missile Launchers mounted in its side torsos. Backing up these flexible ranged weapons is pair of light hitting Light PPCs with one found in each of its arm. CASE II is fitted in each of the 'Mech arms, to shield other arm weaponry from possibility of ammunition explosion. BV(2.0)=1,420[5]
- B Config. - Designed for close-combat, the B Configuration is designed unlike the Coventry’s Black Hawk KU or older Clan Nova OmniMechs. The configuration is armed with 10 Medium Lasers split between the 'Mech's two arms with additional of a single Medium Pulse Laser in right torso. These weapons are tided in to a Targeting Computer. Other equipment found in the B Configuration is Guardian ECM Suite, five Jump Jets, and a Coolant Pod help cope with high-heat produced by its weapons and equipment. BV(2.0)=2,076[6]
- C Config. - Intended to be cripple and captured enemy units, the C Configuration principle tool in its mission is a TSEMP Cannon found in the left arm. Its offensive weaponry includes a single Snub-Nose PPC and a Light Class 5 Autocannon found in other arm. Both arm's lower actuators have been removed to allow the 'Mech flexibility of flipping its arms. CASE II is added right torso to limit any ammo hits from crippling the 'Mech's engine and arm weapons. One additional heat sink is added as well. BV(2.0)=2,048[7]
Notes
The Gauntlet strongly resembles the Bushwacker BattleMech, though there no mentioning the design's strong resemblence to it. Archon Adam Steiner intended the Gauntlet as to be honor the spirit of Lyran Commonwealth.[8]
