History[edit]

The Halland was a Congress-class frigate in service with the Draconis Combine Admiralty during the First Succession War. The Halland and a sister ship operated by the DCA, the DCS Stockholm, were originally constructed during the early years of the Star League before being acquired or captured by the Draconis Combine.[1]

The Halland and the Stockholm took part in the massive invasion of the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery early in the First Succession War. The invasion was a massive success, helped by the DCA policy of targeting JumpShips and communications systems to sow chaos, and the initial response mustered by First Prince John Davion, Operation SOLAR SHIELD, was a disaster. By the time Prince John's second plan had begun at the end of 2789, the Dragon had advanced as far as conquering such far-flung Federated Suns worlds as Acoma, Batavia, Imbrial III, Kestrel, and Saunemin.[2]

During the Combine invasion of Imbrial III, a mercenary unit contracted to the Combine known as the Longhorns—the former Amaris Empire Armed Forces and Rim Worlds Army 201st Republican Lancers[3]—decided to defect to the Federated Suns, bringing valuable intelligence on the DCMS presence in the Imbrial system with them. Prince John's second plan was a massive naval response under the operational command of Admiral Kenneth Jones, who divided the bulk of the Federated Suns Navy into two large task forces, and deployed them from system to system, striking specifically at DCA naval assets in an attempt to hamper the ability of the Combine to move and support its forces, and to break the naval superiority the DCA had enjoyed in many systems. Imbrial III was the first target of the task force led by Jones, striking in early 2790, attempting to catch the DCA ships in the system before they had recovered from the initial battle to capture the planet. Although the task force only stayed in the system for a week before moving on to the next target, the strike was successful, destroying four attack DropShips, two transport JumpShips, the Halland and the Stockholm.[1]
