History

Death

John's BattleMech was destroyed in battle on the planet New Aragon in 3008, facing Wolf's Dragoons Zeta Battalion. John Waco was surrounded by a lance of Dragoon BattleMechs focusing fire on his Wasp until it was destroyed. Fortunately, John was able to eject and hide from the enemy 'Mechs, but he would not last for long. As one of the Ranger's Mechs spotted the young MechWarrior, they made a quick dash to save him. However a Dragoon Stalker decided to engage the 'Mech trying to save John, and unable to see the downed pilot due to the smoke ignited by John's lance, inadvertently crushed him underfoot, killing the young Waco instantly.[1]

Legacy

John's death was investigated by ComStar, who cleared the Dragoons of any wrongdoing. The Dragoons' history rarely shows coldblooded killing, so his death was almost certainly an accident. But his father refused to accept this fact, and declared a "Death Oath" against the Dragoons, swearing to kill any Dragoon his forces captured.[2]

Wayne's hate toward the Dragoons never ceased, and he fought his personal war against the group at every opportunity. In 3067, Wayne avenged his son in the First Battle of Harlech, when he fatally wounded Jaime Wolf. Wayne also perished, and the Rangers were annihilated in the battle.[3]

BattleMech

John Waco was piloting a Wasp BattleMech at the time of his death.
