Major Makeda Kay was a thirty-second-century officer of the Free Worlds League Military.

History[edit]

When the League began invading Wolf Empire territory, Kay was assigned to oversee Task Force Accord, leading the invasion of Tongatapu, comprising the Third Free Worlds Guards and the Fourth Regulan Hussars. As the two regiments fought on Aitutaki in 3140, the mistrust and hatred between them was considerable. The Task Force shattered the Tongatapu defenders, the 103rd Wolf Garrison Cluster, and took the planet. Kay informed Atreus of the victory before moving to New Olympia. There, the Task Force faced the 105th Wolf Garrison Cluster, which began a harassment campaign while awaiting reinforcements.[2]

Death[edit]

However, Kay's Task Force didn't succeed this time. On 5 April 3152, the Ninety-fourth Wolf Battle Cluster arrived and made orbital drops into the middle of the Fourth Regulans cantonment, surrounding the command company. Then the Third arrived to assist them, Kay having been killed in action.[1]

Legacy[edit]

Kay's death, despite her rank, would have great and devastating consequences. First, without her, both regiments of her task Force distrusted each other so much that the battle on planet became a stalemate, with no one side strong or determined enough to break it.[3]

The other consequences were felt on Atreus. Nikol Halas-Hughes Marik was devastated by her friend's loss, and when Clan Sea Fox contacted both sides of the conflict to broker a ceasefire in exchange for rebuilding all the area's HPGs, Nikol instead began planning a full-scale invasion of the Wolf Empire. When asked by her general for an answer to the Foxes, Nikol said The Foxes did not save Makeda Kay, in a clear refusal of the offer.[4]

Notes[edit]

  • There is some discrepancy about where Kay died. In Empire Alone it was stated that she died on New Olympia, while Redemption Rites gives Tongatapu.[5]
