Operation DAMOCLES II was a military operation planned by Clan Wolf Khan Vlad Ward, during the Jihad.
History[edit]
After the Scouring of Tamar, samples in the Clan Wolf genetic repository on Tamar were destroyed or contaminated.
Since the only source for viable Clan Wolf genetic samples, legacies and assets were located faraway on Strana Mechty,[1] Vlad Ward organized DAMOCLES, a plan with several sub-operations:
Operation code name | Objective | Outcome |
---|---|---|
GLADIUS | Secretly collect all Clan Wolf genetic legacies from the Strana Mechty master genetic repository for transport to the Inner Sphere, except for Kerensky and Winson | Successful, all targeted legacies secured[2] |
SPATHA | Secretly board the WarShip McKenna's Pride to steal General Kerensky's body during the commotion planned during Operation KOPIS to remove the last symbol of Kerensky from the Homeworlds | Failed, Clan Wolf boarding party intercepted before reaching the Pride. Elements of SPATHA would later be used for Operation SPATHA II.[3] |
KOPIS | 1. Secretly steal the Kerensky and Winson genetic legacies from the Strana Mechty master repository.
2. Goad all Clans into attacking the Kerensky Blood Chapel to make them think that the Kerensky legacies had been destroyed. |
Successful[4][5] |
SPATHA II | Secretly board the McKenna's Pride (again) to steal General Kerensky's body to remove the last symbol of Kerensky from the Homeworlds | Successful, Pride also stolen.[6] |
PILUM | Unknown | Unknown[7] |
Consequences[edit]
Despite the delay of almost five years, all major objectives of DAMOCLES were accomplished, with the additional prize of acquiring the McKenna's Pride.
Pride was an icon of war, a powerful WarShip in itself... but Vlad Ward knew that the existence of the ship and Aleksandr's body in Clan Wolf hands must be kept secret, as that knowledge would make Clan Wolf a target for other Clans or the Word of Blake, so he sent Garmen and the surviving members of his unit with Devlin Stone and personally hid the Pride in an unpopulated system in the Dark Nebula.[8]
The Home Clans, now isolated, ignored who had launched SPATHA and PILUM, as they took no prisoners; the theory of the Clan Wolf implication was without any proof, so the Home Clans claimed the attack on the McKenna's Pride had been made by The Society and also claimed that Aleksandr Kerensky's body had been recovered in space... but in fact it was Stas's body, which was buried in a monumental tomb near the Hall of Khans posing as his ancestor.[9]
The Pride stayed in the Dark Nebula until 3147 when it was recovered by a Clan Wolf unit, led by Garner Kerensky.[10]
Khan Ward hid all information about SPATHA and SPATHA II: a century later, Clan Wolf historians were unable to find more than some mention to it. Besides a recorded message, left hidden for their descendants, it appears Vlad erased any data about the Pride or SPATHA.[11]
