Description

The Challenger X Main Battle Tank was design combat the challenge of Clans possed the Inner Sphere. Introduced 3058 team effort of Kallon Industries and General Motors. The two corporations teamed up to create a Main Battle Tank that could handle anything up to a BattleMech. The companies decide unit their efforts instead possibly of losing lucrative contracts out doing each other. The Tank was produced on three differient worlds; Kirklin, Kathil, and Salem.

Armaments & Capacities

The Challenger X was designed as super-heavy tank to handle multiple threats. The companies equipt the Tank with General Motor's 270 rated Extra-Light Fusion Engine to give the tank room it need carry all sort of deady weaponry. The allows the tank move to a modest 54 kilometers hour, keeping pace with modest heavy formations of vehicles and 'Mechs.

It primary weaponry includes turret mounted Gauss Rifle with two tons of ammo. This gives the tank the needed ranged weapon as well one-shot-one kill capacity. To compliment its long range gauss, a turret mounted Artemis IV FCS enhanced Federated 10 Tubed Long Range Missile Launcher with 2 tons of ammunition. To help fight Battle Armor and other threats, an LB 10-X Autocannon was mounted on the turret of the tank. With two tons of capacity, to allow carry both solid and cluster rounds for any situation it should face. To handle the close range threats, the tank has been equipt with pair of Streak SRM 2 launchers protect the sides of the tank. It also been equiped front mounted Medium Pulse Laser, with rear Small Pulse Laser to protect its rear flank.

The tank is protected by 14 tons of Kallon's Ferro-Fibrous Armor complete the protection for Challenger.

Deployment

The Challenger was deployed in both the Armes of the Federated Commonwealth, later Federated Suns primary and many in Lyran Alliance. It joined prestiages units such as the Davion Heavy Guard RCT and Davion Assault Guard RCTs, where it formed backbone for those regiments teams' tanks corps.

Tank saw combat against both sides of the FedCom Civil War. It was later saw combat during the Jihad in battlefields brutal battlefields of New Avalon, St. Ives, and Indicass.

Variants

  • Challenger XI MBT - Outfitted by AFFC, this tank created as Command unit utlizing C3 Master Computer. Tank's weaponry includes two Gauss Rifles with 5 tons of ammunition; with only a forward mounted xtended Range Medium Laser as secondary weapon. BV (1.0) = 1,254 (Combined C3 BV)
  • Challenger XII MBT - Introduced in 3064[1] where it preimered on battlefield in the FedCom Civil War. The design was upgrade of the original, were it retained the original's Gauss Rifle with increase of ammo to three tons. The turret mounted LRM 10 was upgraded to Artemis enhanced LRM 15 launcher with three tons of ammo. The LB 10-X is replaced by a Rotary Autocannon/2 with 2 tons of ammo. It front mounted lasers doubled, with two ER Medium Lasers. The side mounted Streak SRM 2 launchers are replaced with single Streak SRM 4 launcher mounted in turret with single ton of ammo to feed it. The tank been also equipt with Guardian ECM Suite and C3 Slave Unit to enhance gunnery. BV (1.0) = 1580 (combined with C3 slave BV).
