Description
First built in the mid 30th century, the Fredasa-Class Corvette is the smallest of new-design WarShips produced by the Clans and often sees use as a picket ship.
The Inner Sphere navies however refer to the Fredasa as a raider, based on the preceived primary mission of the class, its ability to reach 4 Gs of acceleration in short bursts, superlative maneuverability for its size and small emergence signature. While lightly armored by modern standards, at least compared to its closest Successor State counterpart the slightly heavier Fox-class Covertte, the use of Valiant Lamellor Ferro-Carbide plating does give it superior protection than Star League era craft of similar size. Like many modern craft, the Fredasa is equipped with a Lithium-Fusion Battery System.
Armament
Relatively well armed for its size, Fredasa features a mixture of anti-fighter and capital class weaponry. A pair of Gauss Rifles, four ER Large and Small Lasers provide anti-fighter defenses in support of a mammoth NAC/40 and twin NL45s. Both forward angles feature four ER large lasers paired with two NAC/10s, while each broadside mounts four small lasers, three Streak SRM-6 launchers and a pair of NL45s. Along it aft quarters, the Fredasa carries two Artemis IV FCS enhanced LRM-20 launchers on each rear angle supported by four ER large lasers, four small lasers and two more NL45s. Carrying five tons of gauss reloads, eight tons of LRM and twelve of Streak missiles, along with eighty tons of NAC/10 and a hundred and twenty of NAC/20 rounds give the corvette moderate endurance for its intended and perceived roles.
Cargo
Beyond being able to carry a single DropShip, twenty OmniFighters and two Small Craft, the Fredasa has minimal cargo capacity of 2,578 tons.
Named Vessels
- Kerensky's Blues - Captured by the Blue Star Irregulars with the aid of the Hell's Black Aces during a raid against Clan Jade Falcon in 3053, this made the Irregulars the only mercenary unit outside of the Wolf's Dragoons to field a WarShip. Unfortunately even with Dragoon aid and stripping out the smaller Clan-tech weapons, the Irregulars were unable to maintain the vessel after taking heavy damage during the FedCom Civil War and the barely functional ship was destroyed trying to defend refugees fleeing Clan Jade Falcon space in 3064.[1]
- CIE Whelp - A Clan Ice Hellion vessel constructed during the Golden Era of the Clans. The ship's notable action was its participation in the Clan's invasion of Clan Jade Falcon's Occupational Zone in June 3071. The ship was assigned to the Clan's Beta Galaxy Naval Star, fighting with saKhan Conner Rood's task force. During course of the campaign, the ship provide WarShip support to the task force, but was lost fighting Clan Jade Falcon and Hell's Horses Aerospace assets in final battle for Dark Nebula in March, 3072.[2]
- CIE Swift Bait - A Clan Ice Hellion WarShip, which was constructed in Mid-30th Century. The ship principally noted for its participation in the Clan invasion of Clan Jade Falcon space in June 3071. It was assigned to Delta Galaxy's Naval Star for the invasion. This ship was destroyed by Jade Falcon forces in the Steelton system in September.[3]
- CGB Black Ghost - The Black Ghost was used by the Ghost Bears to defend Thule in the Dominion War. It destroyed one of the 14th Sun Zhang Academy Cadre's DropShips as it went in for a landing.[4]
