The Northwind Hussars were a mercenary unit formed specifically by the Northwind Highlanders to fight the Clans.
Contents
History[edit]
Formed after the Northwind Highlanders' operations on Wayside V in 3058[1] as a dedicated unit to combat the Clans. The first commander was Loren Jaffray.[2]
In April 3059, the Hussars were stationed in Fort Defiance on Defiance in the Crucis March. Here they formed a crucial part of the training instructor to Task Force Serpent.[3] Later in 3059 the Hussars, along with Stirling’s Fusiliers, took part in Operation BULLDOG. They fought on Virentofta and Rockland.[2][4]
After Bulldog the Hussars were stationed on Tukayyid under contract to the Star League, While there the Hussars raised the Third Battalion that it sent on several raids against Clan Wolf.[2]
In 3067, they were contracted to the SLDF and garrisoned Ueda.[5]
The Word of Blake Jihad wasn't kind to the Hussars, as they were annihilated. Jaffray survived and took several survivors of the Hussars to reinforce the Ghosts of the Black Watch until their annihilation in Odessa in 3074. Jaffray was officially killed, though in fact he survived.[6]
The Hussars didn't survive to the Jihad, but part of their Clan original equipment was later used to form the Republic Twelfth Hastati Sentinels, in the Dark Age Era.[7]

Tactics[edit]
The regiment is a dedicated anti-Clan force, although it is still capable of standard Inner Sphere tactical doctrines.
