History[edit]
Formation[edit]
The Capellan Reserve Cavalry formed during the years between the repeal of the Star League Council Edict of 2650 in 2572 and the eruption of the Amaris Coup. The Capellan Confederation Armed Forces had expanded rapidly, as did the militaries of the other Great Houses, and the Capellan Reserve Cavalry was the last of the CCAF brigades to form (or re-form) prior to the Coup. Between 2572 and 2765 the Reserve Cavalry mustered seven new regiments, with the intention that the Reserve Cavalry would act as rapid reinforcements to other units and as a source of replacement personnel for frontline commands. Like the other regiments within the Reserve Cavalry, the First was an odd combination of volunteer corps, training cadre and militia, with standing orders for the junior Colonel in charge of the First to subordinate his command to place it at the full disposal of any frontline command it served alongside. This allowed the First to act as a synergistic part of the superior formation, free of internal power struggles or conflicts.[1]
The First was established using personnel from various home guard regiments, and like the personnel inducted into the other Reserve Cavalry regiments, they were brimming with vigor and patriotism.[1]

At some point during the late Succession Wars era (though implicitly no later than 3025) the First Confederation Reserve Cavalry attacked Shiro III. After losing a lance and losing the communications module from a downed Capellan Cyclops. The defending units, the Fifth Defenders of Andurien and mercenary unit Steel Brothers, had a disagreement and the mercenaries defected to the Magistracy of Canopus. Elements of the First Confederation Reserve Cavalry were able to follow them and attempted to destroy the Steel Brothers, but failed to do so.[2] |
Fourth Succession War[edit]
Operation RAT[edit]
At the onset of the assault on Liao by Armed Forces of the Federated Suns the First Reserve was defending the planet along with two battalions of House Lu Sann and Vincent's Commandos. Up against them were the Thirty-third Avalon Hussars and the Blue Star Irregulars.[3]
In the first stages of the battle the First was forced to retreat from their positions on the island continent of Anderia to the mountainous north. There they attacked and defeated the Blue Star Irregulars although eventually abandoned the planet when fresh Davion regiments arrived.[3] Backed up by elements of the Prefectorate Guard, the First CRC faced elements of the Twenty-first Rim Worlds Regiment of the Blue Star Irregulars. They fought General Mona Troy of the Blue Star Irregulars, and killed her.[4]
Operation RIPOSTE[edit]
The remaining units of the First landed on Nopah with the intention of taking warehouses in the city of Grinsanders by surprise but were instead ambushed by the Crater Cobras and easily dispatched. The commander of the unit managed to send out a warning to other Liao forces.[5]

Tactics[edit]
Although the First was as enthusiastic as the other Reserve Cavalry regiments and had the advantage of drawing on experienced Home Guard personnel when mustering, that same experience and prior service made the First slow to seize the initiative.[1]
