Unit Description[edit]
The Forty-first Shadow Division was one of the Word of Blake Shadow Divisions, composed of the hyper-elite, cybernetically enhanced Manei Domini. The unit was known for its actions in the Periphery during the early Jihad.
History[edit]
Elements of the Forty-first Shadow Division and the Thirteenth Word of Blake Militia Division, masquerading as Capellan units, captured Denbar and Spica in 3069. After installing local militias on both planets, the Thirteenth withdrew to Kittery.[3]
The Shadow Division's first official deployment came in 3071, when the unit arrived on Canopus IV to support the Thirty-fourth Word of Blake Militia Division in securing the Magistracy of Canopus capital, Crimson. The Forty-first set the city on fire, effectively ending the ongoing struggle for Crimson between Canopian guerrillas and the Word of Blake. For the rest of the year, the Forty-first conducted a series of raids against several Canopian worlds in an effort to break resistance. These raiding forces, typically one or two Level IIIs, struck worlds such as Adherlwin, Bass, Borgan's Rift, Lindenmarle, and Megarez.[2]
In June 3073, a joint Canopian and Capellan task force attacked the Forty-first's staging base on Aspropirgos. The attackers employed chemical weapons that were highly effective against cybernetic opponents, causing their myomer implants to detonate. The assault destroyed almost all of the Forty-first's infantry assets as well as its staging base. While some units stayed behind in Canopian space, the majority of the Forty-first (about three Level IIIs) retreated into the Free Worlds League and returned to Gibson.[2]
The Forty-first Shadow Division was ultimately destroyed on Gibson in 3079.[1]
