History[edit]

Founding[edit]

The conquest of the bandit kingdoms of the Barrens during Operation REVIVAL brought these worlds a stability they had not experienced since the fall of the Rim Worlds Republic. In 3085 however, following a rebellion on Ferris, Clan Hell's Horses abandoned the Barrens region. Left without support and fearing what might befall them, in 3086 the worlds of The Rock, Drask's Den, Paulus Prime, Crellacor and Gustrell negotiated to form a union inspired by the Clans and more ancient forms of government. Lacking a strong military, the Republic adopted a pacifist stance, but was repeatedly attacked by the Oberon Confederation and Ferris Collective. The Hell's Horses came to consider the Republic a useful buffer state, and were more receptive than other powers to calls for aid[3]. The Republic in turn considers the Horses to be their state's patron.[4]

Oberonian Invasion[edit]

In the 3140s, an unknown supplier upset the balance of power in the Barrens by providing the Oberon Confederation with BattleMechs, enabling them to make gains at the Republic's expense[5]. Crellacor was overrun by Confederation forces in 3144, with Gustrell falling in 3147[6]. The poorly equipped Warrior Caste of the Republic was crushed by the invaders.[4] Clan Hell's Horses intervention was delayed by concerns on other fronts until December 3150[6], when the 12th Rangers Cluster were dispatched to assist the Republic. Crellacor and Gustrell were promptly recaptured[2] and the Republic's complete collapse was averted[4].

Politics[edit]

The Republic maintains the Caste system imposed by the Clans, but unlike their departed overlords do not consider any one caste above another. Instead each world sends representatives of each castes to the Republic's Senate, which serves as their governing body.[3] The Senate meets in the city of Sarah on Gustrell.[2]

Military[edit]

The Republic's Warrior Caste was mentored by Clan Hell's Horses, who provided the Republic with ten trinaries of tanks in the decade after it's formation. The downside of the Horse's assistance was their encouraging the fledgling Warriors to consider themselves above the other castes, creating a risk of coup.[3]
