System name[edit]

Ok, so the world of Carver V was famously renamed to Liberty over the course of the MechCommander 2 game storyline and the name change was later confirmed in Canon through LinkNet and the Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130) document. But I note that only the world of Carver V, i.e. the fifth planet of the Carver system, was renamed. That means technically, the system's star and the system as a whole retain the name Carver. Standard policy for Sarna BTW is to use the system name for articles, not the planet name (e.g. Norn instead of Verthandi, or Suk instead of Suk II). I therefore suggest to move this article back to Carver. Frabby (talk) 06:53, 7 June 2017 (EDT)

I was doing some tinkering with the MC2 page the other day and was thinking exactly the same. Also in article it should it just be "Liberty" not "Liberty V" if we make this change.--Dmon (talk) 07:04, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
I would grudgingly agree with this, assuming redirects were setup so that Liberty redirected to Carver. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 08:25, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
Done, with redirect in place. Frabby (talk) 10:29, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
Sorry to be a fly in the ointment, but if you go to page 22 of FM:3145 it is referred to as the Liberty System . Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:49, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
It's established in BattleTech (in a sidebox in the Starfire story in BattleTech: 25 Years of Art and Fiction) that systems are often referred to by the name of the primary inhabited planet. You'll probably find Norn called the Verthandi system somewhere, or Klathan the Klathandu system, or Trell the Trellwan system. But technically it's incorrect. And the data we have speaks only of Carver V, i.e. the planet, getting its name changed which means the star's name remains Carver, and the system would thus correctly still be described as the Carver system. (Planets having their own names in differently named systems happened in several instances in BattleTech.) Frabby (talk) 18:09, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
Fair enough, but playing devil's advocate does that mean the Terra page should be changed to Sol? - Dark Jaguar (talk) 18:40, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
You're right, but believe it or not, this is the one official exception. Sarna BTW embraces the Style Guide for BattleCorps writing (unfortunately, I believe I am not free to share it as I'm under NDA) and this Style Guide explicitly states that Terra should always be referred to as such, and not Sol. (At least I think that's in the Style Guide. It could be something someone from TPTB said in a forum or email. But I swear I've read it in an official form of some sort.) Terra is the only system given this kind of attention though. Frabby (talk) 06:20, 8 June 2017 (EDT)
You got to love those exceptions to the rules. It's okay you don't have to share the Guide I wouldn't want the IMR Death Commandos knocking on your door in the middle of the night Cheesy.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 13:55, 8 June 2017 (EDT)
Oh, leave it as Carver. Most of the sources still use that. :P ClanWolverine101 (talk) 23:35, 8 June 2017 (EDT)

Capellan Recapture[edit]

FWL control of Carver V is stated specifically as 2653-2968 in House Marik (The Free Worlds League). Technical Readout: 3039 states only that the battles to recapture lasted 3 years. In the absence of specific mention in a newer source, this implies that the CC did not attempt to recapture immediately.--Cache (talk) 17:00, 29 June 2020 (EDT)
