Yellow Sun Free Guild

The Yellow Sun was one of the Free Guilds operating inside the Wolf Empire.

Description[edit]

The Sun touched many areas, shipping and logistics foremost. They had connections with the Clan Wolf merchant caste and also Clan Sea Fox and local enterprises, and they were investors in the Wolf Empire world of Trellisane weapons factory of Grumman Industries. Secretly, they also specialized in smuggling and gun-running operations, a fact ignored by Clan Wolf.[1][2]

History[edit]

The Yellow suns were a relatively recent Free Guild, created by its first Guildmaster, former Duchess of Loric Pravina, after rising high enough through another Free Guild.[3]

On 9 May 3152, Pravina and other Free Guilds leaders, after the ilClan Trial and Clan Wolf's establishment as the ilClan, contacted the Wolf Empire viceroy, Star Colonel Othar, with a daring offer – as the Empire lacked defenders, they offered to begin recruitment of SLDF militias to help protect the Empire, under the Guild's control. Othar refused, as he hadn't authority for such a radical decision, but sent it to the IlKhan, Alaric Ward. Othar also ordered the Wolf Watch to increase their scrutiny of the Free Guilds, fearing they might be using him to regain power for nobles inside the Empire. As Pravina was a former noble stripped of her lands and power by Clan Wolf, he may have been right.[3]

The Yellow Sun, which by then had extended to dozens of worlds, had contact with Wolf's Dragoons in March of 3152, when Zeta Battalion was attacking Trellisane. There, Zeta's leader, Major Haya Tetsuhara, contacted Factor Ilene of the Yellow Sun, asking her for help in finding the Wolf garrison's DropShips and taking the planet, as they'd been harassing Zeta for weeks with hit-and-run attacks.[4]

Ilene, saying she and her Guild would have nothing to do with helping Zeta win, refused to tell them anything, but offered to sell Zeta supplies if needed.[5]

Days later, when the Wolf garrison was forced to retreat from the system, they did it aboard JumpShips bearing the Yellow Sun's flag. That, along with Ilene's disappearance, implied that the Suns had sided with the Wolves.[6]

In May, Zeta launched a devastating raid against the Empire's capital world of Gienah, successfully infiltrating with JumpShips carrying Yellow Sun transponders. It may be assumed the codes were stolen or faked, and would probably cause problems between the Suns and the Empire.[7]
