The First Robinson Strikers were formed by Duke Tancred Sandoval in 3079.

History[edit]

After the Jihad ended, Duke Tancred Sandoval evaluated the behavior of the First Robinson Rangers during the conflict. He found a unit that had on several occasions allowed their own petty prejudices to affect their performance. To prevent this type of behavior, Duke Sandoval stripped the Rangers of two of their three 'Mech battalions to create two Light Combat Teams. The goal was to create two new units that would defend the Draconis March without becoming steeped in the absolute hatred of the Combine endemic to the Robinson Rangers organization.

The First Robinson Strikers is one unit formed around the battalion stripped from the First Robinson Rangers. To prevent the Rangers' attitude from spoiling the unit, the new unit is largely staffed by veterans who have served under Duke Sandoval and new graduates of the Sakhara Academy.[1]

After spending three years along the Federated Suns border with the Draconis Combine and Outworlds Alliance, the First Strikers have developed their skills by hunting pirates and participating in several minor actions. They are waiting for a permanent duty station in the Draconis March, but have stopped at New Avalon to rest and refit.[2] In July 3086, the First and Second Strikers became two of the first three units to receive supplies of the new Cuirass BattleMech from Robinson Standard BattleWorks, sharing the production run with the prestigious Davion Light Guards.[3]

Devoutly loyal to Duke Tancred, the First Robinson Strikers fought on his behalf against its sister regiments during the Sandoval Civil War - when Jerome Sandoval came out as the victor, the First Strikers were nearly disbanded. Saved by the knowledge that New Avalon would not allow Jerome to create any new military commands to replace them, the First Strikers were instead placed at the bottom of the supply chain and replaced by the First Robinson Rangers as the Duke's personal regiment. The feeling that they had been "flushed down the toilet and into the sewers" lead the First Strikers to take a crocodile as their new mascot, although they continued to work hard to prove their worth to the Draconis March.[4]

When the Draconis Combine initiated its invasion of the Federated Suns and attacked Robinson itself in 3144, the First Strikers gave an extremely good accounting of itself during the ensuing battle. Relying on tightly coordinated actions in order to compensate for the lack of skill her individual soldiers possessed, Leftenant General Wilhelmina Groell made the invaders pay for every block they captured. Ultimately, recognizing the battle for the planet was lost, the First Strikers retreated in good order to Sauk City.[4]
