The Unnamed Soldier was an Infantryman who ended up playing a major part in the resistance to the Solaris Invasion - Operation SHOWTIME - by the Word of Blake during the Jihad.[1]

History

He was born in a farmer's family in Issaba.[2]

He was decided not to follow his family's steps and in 3048 falsified his papers and lied about his age to the LAAF recruiter and joined the Federated Commonwealth forces as an infantryman where he server for eight years, and left service to become a Mercenary in 3056 with a lot of experience and scars but without any real major wound.[3]

His work as a mercenary made him travel a bit, but prior to 3062 he was operating only in Solaris VII. During those years he lost a kidney in action, and enlarged his number of scars to more than one hundred.[4]

In 3062 he participated in an operation to sabotage Skye Tigers Stables recently procured OmniMech, a Clan Ghost Bear Man O' War, from James Stroud estate - the Skye Tigers Estate located in Silesia. With two other mercenaries he executes the raid and during it they rescue Erik Gray, which was indeed a good thing for them as his actions during the shout-out that had them pinned in the estate's warehouse might have killed them. Erik Gray piloted to OmniMech to their safety and all can escape and also destroy the 'Mech.[5] Unknown to him, James Stroud accused Drew Hasek-Davion of ordering mercenaries to sabotage that OmniMech.[6]

A short time after this, while he is in the shooting range of the Kubler Street Gun Club in Silesia when Erik Gray arrives to speak with him. He needs help to get the better side of a contract with the Eternal Flames, the only ones offering a MechWarrior combat slot. The Unnamed Soldier accepts, and after some days he and Erik met unarmed in the The Copper Coin with the three triad representatives: two triad lieutenants and Jonas, a lawyer who had past experience with Erik. Thanks to planning by the Unnamed Soldier, Erik is able to get the best part of the contract.[3]

Nothing is known of his actions in Solaris till the start of the Jihad in 3068, though during this time he has converted Erik Gray in his friend.

He joins the Solaris Home Defense League and participates in the defense of Solaris City, using a Cavalier battlesuit borrowed from Lyran units that have joined their resistance movement. This first Battle goes well and blunts the WoB forces (the Twenty-fifth Division)[2], though in the end they need to leave the city escaping from the WoB units. He describes himself as the leader of the unit's strategy that asks Erik Gray to share as MechWarriors follow better orders from somebody they consider their peer.[2]

During that escape he is wounded in his Cavalier Battle Armor, leaving Erik to lead the unit. They are able to gain some advantage on the WoB forces when they encounter several unregistered 'Mechs that turn out to belong to several second league stables: Midnight Stables, Manticore Stables, Jacobite Stables and the Streholm Cooperative, all of them lead by Shen Driscoll. A pact is agreed based on share rights on video time in the transmissions being sent outside. That union is able to recover the initiative and brake the WoB's back, making those units escape and return to Solaris City.[7]

That same year, and while defending Nowhere city and Blue Points Weapons, he is hijacked by an unknown party dressed in WoB colors. It turns out this is Connor DeLon's doing and that of his Yakuza clan, that wants to help and be helped by the SHDL to increase their power. After strong negotitatons, where is able to reverse position and get a real confirmation that the contract will be followed (Connor DeLon cuts part of his finger), he agreed to the proposal, just asking that his one percent is payed to the SHDL in parts.[4]

It is not known if he survived the Jihad, though it seems quite probable. Nothing is known of him after the 3068 incident though.[citation needed]

Tactics

One of his most known Tactics is Always Negotiate from a Strong position.[8]

Battle Armor

When using a battle armor the did use a Cavalier model.

Notes

  • His age is calculated thanks to this comments: In 3062 James Stroud accused Drew Hasek-Davion to have sabotaged his OmniMech. The Unnamed Soldier says that he is 30 at that time, which sets 3032 as the year he is born.[5]
  • In the anthology A Face Full of Blades, the author Loren L. Coleman says he discovered after the first two short histories, that he had not named the character, and after that he took actions to ensure he did not give a name to him.[9]
