The X Corps (or Tenth Corps) was a corps of the Star League Defense Force. Prior to the collapse of the Star League it consisted of 7 divisions and 4 independent regiments.[1]

History[edit]

In 2764 the Tenth Corps was part of the First Army, assigned to the Terran Military Region. Headquartered on New Earth the Tenth Corps acted as the middle layer of defenses for the Hegemony, supporting the XXI Corps forward defense and bleeding enemy troops before they could reach Terra's I Corps. In the Operation PERSUASIVE FORCE wargames of 2757, X Corps' units slowed the aggressor forces by more than a month, and destroyed one and a half units for every unit they lost. The Planning and Strategy referees ruled that these delaying tactics would allow reinforcements to attack the aggressor flank in real combat, and awarded Tenth Corps a special award.[2]

The units of the Tenth Corps often served to test new prototypes in combat settings. These units also often moved from one garrison posting to another to inspect the various fortifications and defensive preparations on Hegemony worlds. To insure that these defenses were ready, each division and regiment had standing orders to engage the defenders in wargames once they arrived and again before they rotated off-world. This allowed the defenders, largely composed of reserve troops, to gain combat experience. To improve the training still more, the 209th Light Horse Regiment was configured as a bandit raiding force, and struck at least four systems per year. The 209th would be the only independent regiment left in the Tenth Corps, as the 112th Royal Hussars, 114th Hussars, and 20th Dragoon Regiments were all assigned to the Periphery in 2763.[2]

However, in 2765 an uprising occurred in the Periphery, requiring the corps' repositioning to fill in gaps left by other units sent to fight. The Tenth's units were split up between the military regions of the Draconis Combine, Free Worlds League, Federated Suns, and Lyran Commonwealth. However, the uprising had been secretly orchestrated by Stefan Amaris to accomplish his takeover of the Star League.

The Tenth would take part in Aleksandr Kerensky's campaign to retake the Terran Hegemony from Amaris, but in the process suffered heavy fighting. Of those units which survived, only two would join in Kerensky's Operation EXODUS: the 26th Mechanized and 20th Dragoon.
