The Otisberg system was the location of at least one habitable world, Otisberg IV, and as at 3145 was located in the Rim Commonality.[2][3]

System Description

The Otisberg system is located close to the Gillfillan's Gold and Wingzar systems[2][3] and consists of a class F9V primary orbited by at least four planets.[1]

System History

The Otisberg system was either colonised by the Rim Worlds Republic during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War or was an already-inhabited system that became significant enough during this era for the nations of the Inner Sphere to begin recording its location on maps.[4][5]

Otisberg IV

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Otisberg IV - commonly referred to simply as Otisberg - is the fourth planet in the system and has a single moon named Miloe.[1]

Planetary History

Clan Invasion

Otisberg was one of six former Rim Worlds Republic worlds to be involved in discussions in the 3040s about possibly forming a new nation as a result of the rising popularity of the Unification Movement. While the Movement had been steadily gaining popularity in the first half of the 3040s as a result of the lectures and speeches given by James Moroney in support of the cause, many were still very concerned that unifying would simply make them a more popular target for the pirates and bandits that already periodically raided the various worlds. A devastating pirate attack on Otisberg in November 3046 underscored this and nearly derailed the process completely, but with the arrival and support of the Able's Aces mercenary unit, led by an officer born on Otisberg, the collective populations of the six worlds agreed to form the Rim Collection in 3048.[6]

The Jihad

During the Jihad Otisberg devoted huge amounts of effort to excavating the buried remains of factories from the Star League era, and then repairing those assembly lines that could be repaired.[1] Rim Motors subsequently took advantage of the educated refugees who were fleeing the battles being fought in the nearby Circinus Federation, using their knowledge and skills to aid in the renovation of the ancient factory ruins.[7] As a result of these assorted efforts, by the closing stages of the Jihad Rim Motors had managed to operate a production line in Amarison on Salvation for several years, producing RetroTech Commando-class BattleMechs.[1] The quality of these Commandos was considered to be remarkably high, given the speed with which they were being constructed.[7] The production of RetroTech 'Mechs continued even after the end of the Jihad.[8]

Geography

Otisberg has three continents named Ashland, Purgatory and Salvation. Otisberg is a volcanically active planet, and while the volcanic soil is fertile, working the soil was relatively dangerous because of the ongoing volcanic activity.[1]

Planetary Locations

  • Amariston: the location on Salvation of the Rim Motors manufacturing facilities.[1]
  • Troy: the planetary capital city, located on Salvation.[1]

Notes

The Otisberg system doesn't appear on maps in Handbook: House Steiner, Handbook: Major Periphery States, p. 18 & 25 and Historical: Liberation of Terra Volume 1, p. 104, but does appear on maps of the same time period contained in other sources.
