In 2838 the garrison unit defending Wisconsin, the 8th Marik Militia, was destroyed through a combination of battle and treachery; traitors within the 8th allowed agents acting on behalf of the Capellan Confederation to poison the Militia's water supply, and the members of the unit who survived the poisoning were unable to resist an assault launched by Justine's Grenadiers. Many of the Militia troops were captured, but few survived their incarceration. Those members of the 8th who did survive were subsequently rolled up into the 23rd Marik Militia.[2]

The pirate band known as the Hateful Survivors raided Wisconsin in 3140 with a battalion-strong force of BattleMechs. The defenders on Wisconsin at the time consisted of the mercenary unit Pandora's Box, who had great difficulty battling the Hateful Survivors, who proceeded to rampage through the major cities on the planet. Pandora's Box finally forced the Hateful Survivors to retreat when a force consisting of three lances of Koshi 'Mechs managed to break through the Hateful Survivors' lines, engaging and destroying most of the Survivors' command lance and locating the pirate DropShips, which were promptly the subject of an artillery bombardment.[3]
