History[edit]
Early History[edit]
The Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group mustered as a part of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery during the First Succession War[1] in 2811 as corporate security for Amphigean Agriculture Incorporated.[3] Used as cannon fodder by Coordinator Jinjiro Kurita in his Chain Gang Missions of the Second Succession War, the surviving ASG returned to corporate life as well-regarded but ultimately forgotten forces to protect the far-flung holdings of their parent company.[2]
Third Succession War[edit]
By 2952, the Amphigean Security Group had grown to six battalions and the DCMS approached AGI with long-term contracts for two regiments. The First and Second Amphigean Light Assault Groups would be supplied by the DCMS, though piloted by AGI MechWarriors, while the Third and Fourth remained battalion-sized and under full AGI control. Both ALAG mercenary contracts were renewed, eventually in perpetuity by the DCMS throughout the next century. The Fifth Regiment was noted as not raised until this time.[2]
In 3025, the unit was stationed on Harvest.[4]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
At the start of the Fourth Succession War the Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group was stationed on the world Harvest alongside the mercenary unit Helmut's Hermits and a considerable number of supporting regiments. The regiment was taken by surprise by the attack of the First Lyran Regulars, the Third Lyran Regulars and the Fourth Donegal Guards during Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. The Fifth LAG was eventually being forced to retreat to Kirchbach. However, the LCAF attacked Kirchbach during the exploitation phase. Kirchbach was defended by the Fifth Amphigean LAG and two additional DCMS 'Mech units, Helmut's Hermits and the Seventeenth Rasalhague Regulars. The Lyran task force consisted of the Tyr Regiment, Winfield's Brigade, the Fourth Donegal Guards and the Third Lyran Regulars. The DCMS units were driven off-world in short order after the Seventeenth Regulars had been crushed by the Tyr Regiment.[5][6]
In the years following the Fourth Succession War, the Fifth LAG was granted an exemption to Takashi Kurita's Death to Mercenaries edict. While they were technically mercenaries, they were viewed as internally raised corporate security troops serving under perpetual contract to the DCMS, rather than mercenaries per se.[2][7]
War of 3039[edit]
In April 3039, Vega was attacked by the Federated Commonwealth's Third Davion Guards and Third Lyran Guards regiments. The end result was the Fifth LAG and the Fourteenth Legion of Vega were forced off-world.[8]
The Fifth LAG faced off against Task Force Blizzard, which consisted of the Grave Walkers, Seventeenth Recon Regiment, and Snord's Irregulars mercenary units. The FedCom mercs forced the Fifth out of Nasew and secured the spaceport. The Fifth split into separate battalions. The First Battalion pinned these mercenaries in place for several weeks. Meanwhile Third Battalion led by Chu-sa Fengo Olesko struck at AFFC targets by passing through the Great Desert of Tears. The FedCom units couldn't commit to frontal assaults because their rear areas were threatened by the Third Battalion. Eventually Snord's Irregulars was able to track down the Third Battalion by using their Star League electronic systems. This forced the Third to leave the world and eventually led to all the DCMS units leaving the world.[9]
Clan Invasion[edit]
Courcheval[edit]
In MechWarrior 5: Clans, the Fifth fought as a resistance movement against a Clan Smoke Jaguar occupation force on Courcheval but was ultimately defeated, sometime around October 3051. Tai-sho Kent Gerber sacrificed himself in a final stand against the Jaguars, allowing Helen Cassidy and the survivors of the Fifth to escape on a Union DropShip. Helen Cassidy thus became the commanding officer of the Fifth again.[10]
Krenice[edit]
The Fifth was shattered in 3051[2] or 3052[11] during the Clan Invasion when Clan Ghost Bear attacked Krenice. The Fifth did severe damage to the Twelfth Bear Chevaliers when they first landed, and proceeded to launch a series of raids on their supply lines and ran a series of hit and run assaults. The Ghost Bears were able to flush the Fifth out of their hiding places via air support, and forced the Fifth to move across the continent away from their DropShips. The Fifth's commander dispatched smaller groups to slow the pursuing Bears by hitting them in the flanks. The Fifth was driving towards the city of Hasnorvan while stringing out and attacking the Bears. Unfortunately the Bears had lifted an assault Trinary to the city and occupied fortified positions. When the Fifth reached the city, they were caught in a crossfire that destroyed them.[11]
The 48th[edit]
The battalion-sized mercenary unit known as The 48th was made up of the surviving members of the Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group.[12]

Color Scheme and Insignia[edit]
The Amphigean Light Assault Group uses camouflage that changes based on the planet and environment they are fighting in. When so ordered to use "parade colors" they adopt a "junkyard camo", painting their vehicles a combination of flat gray with rust-brown splotches and black burn marks. The ALAG insignia is an armor-plated shark on a black field outlined in red.[21]
