Jeremy Hawksworth was the commanding officer of the Twelfth Donegal Guards near the end of the Third Succession War to 3050.[1][2][3]
History[edit]
Jeremy Hawksworth was one of the first Lyran officers to receive training at the New Avalon Military Academy after the FedCom Accords were signed between the Federated Suns and Lyran Commonwealth. He may have commanded Andrew Redburn in the Davion Light Guard in 3028 on St. Andre.[4] He successfully trained the Twelfth Donegal in the new tactical doctrine the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth was hoping to instill, earning his unit the nickname "Foxy Crocodiles," while other Lyran officers and units resisted. His unit successfully emulated the fearsome reptile throughout the Fourth Succession War and the War of 3039.[5]
He was leading the unit in 3046 when the Twelfth was stationed on Ryde alongside the native Ryde Militia. Later in that year, elements of the Twelfth engaged a Duke Ricol-loyal training battalion of DCMS Mechwarriors.[1][6] Most of the 'Mechs were lighter weight and unable to stand up to the stereotypically heavier Steiner 'Mechs.[7] Only two lances escaped of the nine that landed on Ryde.[8]
Clan Invasion[edit]
In 3049, his unit was stationed on Trell I when Victor Steiner-Davion graduated from The Nagelring with the rank of kommandant and was assigned command of his regiment's second 'Mech battalion.[5][9]
During Wave One of the invasion by the Clans, Clan Jade Falcon invaded Trell I, assaulting the planet with three clusters. However, the Donegal Guards had only a vague idea of who they were facing: the elite Jade Falcon Guards and the First and Fifth Falcon Striker Clusters. The Falcons committed so many forces to the world intending to capture Victor, and the Jade Falcon Khans suspended any bidding.[5]
The Falcons grounded on 13 April 3050 and quickly drove for the Twelfth and Victor. For his part, Victor was at the head of his battalion, on the way to a training exercise with the Red Brigade. The scouts initially confused contact with Falcon forces for the Brigade, though they realized their fatal mistake and warned Victor, who alerted the battalion. A surprise rear assault by the hitherto undetected Red Brigade gave Victor and the remaining 'Mechs of this battalion the chance to slip away, which they did, right into the mountain caverns along with the surviving forces of the Brigade.[5]
Victor was recalled by General Hawksworth, who recognized that the Falcons were trying to capture Victor and ordered him off-planet. Hawksworth knew time was limited and ordered Cox to take Victor to his DropShip, which Victor refused, wanting to fight a guerrilla war in the caverns of the Black Mountain foothills, negating the range advantage of the Clantech weapons. Cox knocked him out cold with a sucker punch under orders of General Hawksworth. Though Hawksworth got Victor off Trell I, he did implement Victor's suggestion. The Twelfth harassed the occupying Falcons for months,[5][10][11][12] the only Inner Sphere force to successfully stall the Clan juggernaut for any significant length of time up to that point.[13]
In May 3050, the surviving elements of the Twelfth faced the Third Falcon Talon on Derf. The fierce fighting lasted only a day until the remaining small groups were destroyed.[14]
The exact fate of Jeremy Hawksworth is unknown.
