Description[edit]
The Rogue was produced for the Star League Defense Force as a missile boat designed for zero-G combat. Though well-protected with five and a half tons of ferro-aluminum armoring, its sluggish performance often required it to be escorted by other fighters. Its five tons of fuel gave it the ability to patrol and perform guard duties, as well as function in a fire support and bombardment role. Still, the Rogue was little-loved with few supporters, and the destruction of the Iona shipyards in 2797 meant the craft was on its way to extinction. In the end, only a handful are left in the arsenals of ComStar and Word of Blake, with some possibly held by the Clans in older Brian Caches.[7][4]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The Rogue uses its wing-mounted Holly-8 LRM-15s to engage the enemy at long ranges and, when performing defensive operations, discourage the predation of other launching craft. However, after only eight salvos the craft is left to defend itself with two Starflash-1A medium lasers, one mounted in the nose, the other in the rear of the craft. Since it is often the first fighter to leave a fight, the rear laser is more likely to be used for discouraging any pursuit.[7][4]
Variants[edit]
- RGU-133L
- A strafing model, the RGU-133L Rogue replaced the LRM-15s and ammo with a pair of wing-mounted large lasers and six additional single heat sinks.[11] BV (1.0)= 807,[12] BV (2.0) = 865[5][13]
- RGU-133LP
- An upgraded RGU-133L variant by the Com Guards replaced the standard single heat sinks with double heat sinks and upgraded the lasers to large pulse lasers and medium pulse lasers. Though one of the most potent variants and a favorite among dogfighters, only 10% of ComStar Rogues are this variant.[14] BV (2.0) = 856[15]
- RGU-133P
- A Capellan Confederation variant used in the Second Succession War, this model replaced the LRM-15s with two PPCs and two additional single heat sinks. The model performed poorly, with pilots often losing control of their fighter after firing both PPCs.[16] BV (2.0) = 991[5][17]
- RGU-133Eb
- A design deployed exclusively with SLDF Royal commands, the RGU-133Eb Rogue frees up mass by installing an XL engine. The craft upgrades all lasers to pulse lasers, and adds an Artemis IV FCS.[18] BV (2.0) = 1,072[19]
Notes[edit]
- In German products, the unit's proper name was translated to Streuner. The model code was accordingly changed to STR-133E.
