“ | The infamous Natasha Kerensky of Clan Wolf leads her Wolf Spiders in battle against ComStar forces in the battle for the city of Brzo. | ” |
Plot summary[edit]
Natasha Kerensky prepares herself and her forces for the imminent combat drop on Tukayyid, reflecting on her age and experience as she briefs Alpha Galaxy on what she expects of them, ilKhan Ulric Kerensky congratulating her on her briefing. After making a specific request of her during the battle, Natasha teases from Ulric how poorly the other Clans are faring. Though he worries about even the Wolves chances of winning, Natasha is nonchalant, telling him as Wolves that they will always do such impossible things.
Natasha leads Alpha Galaxy against the ComStar forces, keeping a mindful eye upon Inner Sphere adoptee Phelan during the battle and listening to his efforts over a meal. While they take losses, the Wolves continue to make good headway against the Com Guards and take the first target city, only to encounter stiffening resistance with the appearance of a previously unknown Thirteenth Army and the shock death of Wolf saKhan Garth Radick. Incensed, in the drive to Brzo Natasha makes it her personal mission to hunt down and kill the Com Guards Level II that killed Radick, her savagery in doing so breaking the ComStar line and ensuring the successful capture of the Wolves second target.
With the battle concluded, Natasha and Ulric meet in person to discuss the aftermath, the Wolves success despite the overall Clan defeat and the regrettable loss of Garth Radick. Conal Ward is the automatic choice to succeed him as saKhan, but as a vocal Crusader it would upset the delicate balance toward the Wardens Ulric had created on the Grand Council. Natasha almost chokes on her beer when Ulric suggests both Phelan as the ideal replacement for Radick once he earns his Bloodname and that Natasha should convince Conal to actively sponsor him for the post. Pondering just how to convince Conal Ward to act counter to his Crusader desires and if Ulric's request during the preparations to ensure Phelan's survival during the battle indicated he had planned on this turn of events all along, he merely repeats what she had previously told him, that as Wolves they frequently do the impossible.
