Unit Description

The 279th Battle Cluster was military formation which was part of the original Clan Wolf.

History

Clan Invasion of Inner Sphere

The 279th Battle Cluster was deployed with rest of the Alpha Galaxy as part of the Operation Revival, the invasion of the Inner Sphere.

New Bergen

In May of 3050, 279th's Strike, and First & Second Trinaries were deployed for Trial of Possession of Free Rasalhaguian World of New Bergen. The fight started badly for the Cluster's commander, Star Colonel Lara Ward. Her bid of forces to face off with planet's defenders. The planetary commander, Major General Geston, had lied to her about size his force, consisting of the New Bergen Armored Brigade and New Bergen Mechanized Infantry Brigade. They fought on the landmass known as Iron Island, outside of city of Stover's Field. Despite being at a numeric dis-advantage, she was able to utilized trinies of her original bid to fall back and counter-attack in range of attacks that weithered New Bergan brigades to defeat.[1]

Battle for Raslhague

The Cluster was part of the Clan's main attack force take capital world of Free Rasalhauge Republic, Rasalhague itself. The unit landed in the jungles outside of city of Tyr, where it faced off with the 1st Freeman Regiment on July 8th, 3050. The 279th's OmniMechs and Elemental Battle Armor support moved swiftly through the jungle that the Rasalhague force hoped to use to their advanged. The Freeman used hit & run tactics to overcome the cluster's forces, but Rasalhagians ultimately held on to their positions out city limits. The city's defenders on the 13th, the Cluster's forces overran the city's defenders once the Elected Prince evacuated the planet. The 279th along with the 4th Wolf Guard redeployed to capital city of Reykjavik. On the 15th the Cluster along with other Clan moved to attack city a found defenders fought with intense ferocity. The 1st Drakøn dragged the fighting into the streets of the city. The Raslhaguian BattleMech regiment's lack of concern for citizens of the city enraged the Cluster's warriors. Clan warriors of the 279th and other units in fighting for Reykjavik fought inkind with no mercy. After two days of fighting, city layed in ruins and Clan units victorious.[2]

Tamar

The 279th was deployed with rest of Alpha Galaxy to Federated Commonwealth world of Tamar in November of 3051. Where the unit was lead by their Khan Natasha Kerensky, fight against the harden defenses of Tamar City. Duke of Tamar, Selvin Kelswa, nearly driven mad to protect his city from the Clans had built extensive concert walled with adjusoned turrets with fields of vibrobombs.

When the unit, and rest of the Galaxy landed on planet they Cluster maneuvered help penetrate the walled city fight Duke Kelswa's Kelswa Guard and cadets of the War College of Tamar. As Clan warriors faced 'Mechs from the college riggered with explosives with nearly children piloting these 'Mechs. By the November 13th, the city had fallen.[3]

Other Battles of the Invasion

The was dispatched with Alpha Galaxy to Bessarabia, where they faced the FedCom's 5th Davion Guards in December 3051. Directed by ilKhan Ulric Kerensky, the unit was able to aided in forcing the 5th Davions to weither themselves down to point they would withdraw from the planet. Later, the unit would be positioned with Alpha to take Gunzburg, but action was avoided due to bidding of ilKhan.[4]

Battle of Tukayyid

During the Battle of Tukayyid in 3052, elements of the 279th attempted to over-run the Com Guards' positions held by a 'Mech Level II from the Com Guard 103rd Division. One of the few surviving warriors of this Com Guard unit was Jeremiah Rose, who would go on to form the Black Thorns mercenary company. [5]

Refusal War and Re-Organization

During the Refusal War, the unit fought along other units against Clan Jade Falcon. However, in course of the conflict the unit lost much of its integrity as a fighting force.

After now named Clan Wolf (in Exile) settled on Lyran world of Arc-Royal, the unit was merged with 328th Battle Cluster to form the new 1st Wolf Legion Cluster.[6]

Dark Age

By Dark Age, the 279th Battle Cluster is reformed within Clan Wolf within Occupation Zone.

In 3137, the unit participated in invasion of Nusakan, in former Republic of the Sphere Prefecture IX. The unit landed on Nusakan in March faced off against three different defending battalions. Lead by Star Colonel Alaric Wolf, the 279th fought a gruelling battle against elite La Blon Djinns, mercenary unit Colton's Screaming Demons, and remains of the Stormhammers. The Cluster fought region of space that had been stripped mind during 1st Star League era. The 279th prevailed over the Nusakan defenders, but was heavily damaged.[7]

Officers

As of 3052 the Commanding Officer was Star Colonel Lara Ward.

In March 3137, the Cluster was briefly lead by Star Colonel Alaric during the invasion of former ROTS world of Nusakan.

The 279th Battle Cluster was merged with survivors of the 328th Battle Cluster after the Refusal War and Wolf-In-Exile's defection to the Inner Sphere. The 279th Battle in non-Wolf-In-Exile is new unit, but carries on it deactivated designation.
