Plot summary[edit]

On 2 November 3057, Twenty-First Centauri Lancers commander, Colonel Evelena Haskell, had a meeting with Colonel Marcus Baxter, overall commander of their joint operation to take New Canton, as part of Operation GUERRERO.

They had just landed, but on the way down, the Lancers suffered heavy damage from FedCom aerospace forces. She blamed Baxter for having sent their aerospace far away and barely sending any support, but he dismissed her concerns.

After Baxter had left, Haskell talked with her second-in-command, Ryan Searcy, who was convinced that Marcus was deliberately bleeding them as punishment for the unit's defection from the Capellan army decades earlier. She agreed with him, but wanted to respect their contract.

The same day, Haskell led an assault alongside McCarron's Armored Cavalry units against the planet's defenders. The Lancers were suffering a pounding from the FedCom artillery, and the MAC was barely advancing. Finally, she was forced to break off the attack to save her people.

After returning to base, Baxter blamed Haskell for the failed attack, and refuted her accusations of using the Lancers as cannon fodder. After he departed, Haskell ordered a meeting of all the Lancers officers.

The next day, the Lancers and McCarron's Armored Cavalry made another attack on the planet's capital. The Lancers were suffering a pounding again, and the MAC were once again barely advancing. After Baxter refused to advance faster, Haskell, exhausted, retreated from the fight, after communicating their neutrality to the FedCom leader.

After terminating their contract, the Lancers traveled to Outreach, where they received a new contract – this one from ComStar, to garrison Terra, which they gladly accepted.
