Style Note: Mission Status reports

Mission Status reports, as compiled by the Project Lead, are determined by page completions. As each assignment has three team members assigned, and as each team member finishes his assignment, the respective pages of the targeted title are considered completed. In other words, if a title has 21 pages of material, and the Research Writer completes his assignment of 2 pages, but neither the Fact Checker nor the Copy-editor have done so, the project would be at 3% completion.

Example: A 21-page article has 63 'pages' of assignments: 21 for the Research Writer, 21 for the Fact Checker and 21 for the Copy-editor. With 2 'completed' pages from the Research Writer, the mission is at 3% (2/63=0.031746, rounded to 3). If all three members of the team have completed the same 2-page assignment, then the mission is at 10% complete (6/63=0.095238, rounded to 10).

Copy-editor Training: Doneve

Okay, if a Research Writer reports to the Fact Checker, then both of them report to the Copy-editor. The Copy-editor must be and remain familiar with the BattleTechWiki: Manual of Style and ensure that the Writer conforms to those standards. For that to happen, you have to understand how the Writer and Checker work together. In that regard, I'm going to have you practice a little source research yourself.

Open up your copy of Jihad Turning Points: Luthien to page 6. (If you don't have JTP:L, let me know to which of the Turning Points you do have access.) In the "Combatants" section, look for "1st Genyosha [Samurai]". Within that short 19-line entry there are 13 different subjects that are relevant to the article (in order of appearance): 1st Genyosha, 3067, Shih Chou, Hohiro Kurita II, Tharkad, 14th Sun Zhang Academy Cadre, 3068, Sorenson's Sabres, Luthien, 3071, Chandrasekhar Kurita, Arcturus and 3073. A PUB team member understanding the material may find additional articles that are directly relevant to this. The first one that comes to my mind is Battle of Luthien (Jihad).

If you understand how I found these subjects, I want you to try it. On the same page, find the entry "Sathen's Snipers". I want you to list all relevant subjects addressed in the Snipers' entry, just as I did for "1st Genyosha [Samurai]". List those in your response. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:19, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Okidoky the UBP ball is rolling, thanks for this little guideline. At 1st i have access to all JTP books, and 2nd this is the list you wanted.
Very good job! Some notes: 1) Black Dragons redirects to Kokuryu-kai, so it would be an unnecessary assignment for a Research Writer; 2) Luthien is of critical importance, since the actions all took place there, and Battle of Luthien (Jihad) is definitely relevant.
Okay, your next assignment is to write at least one sentence for each of those subjects. For example:
  • 3073: Sathen's Snipers depart Luthien due to battle fatigue.
  • Illuminada Kesteel: Illuminada Kesteel was the commanding officer of Sathen's Snipers while they served under contract to the Kokuryu-kai and then the Word of Blake.
If you have questions, please ask. Have fun!--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:52, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

  • 3067: The Word of Blake starts the Luthien campaign.
  • 3071: Sathen's Snipers captured by the 9th Division (Word of Blake).
  • 9th Division (Word of Blake): The 9th and Sathen's Snipers depart Luthien due to battle fatigue.
  • Sathen's Snipers: Contracted to the Black Dragons, the Sniper's have a shadow contract.

Copy-editor Training: Wrangler

Okay, Wrangler: the Fact Checker's job is to double-check that the Research Writer has not left important information out of the articles nor that any relevant articles have been missed. One of the best ways to do that is to give the writer a list of articles he believes the writer should include in that particular assignment.

On the same page, find the entry "Otomo/Izanagi Warriors [Samuari]". I want you to list all relevant subjects addressed in the Snipers' entry, just as I did for "1st Genyosha [Samurai]". List those in your response.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:21, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
